Ask to Join Pokémon - Johto Adventures

Robert entered Violet City, with his Misdreavus floating behind him, after traveling all the way from Olivine City.

After arriving to the Johto region by ferry, he heard that the Violet City gym was a great gym for new trainers to go to, and that's exactly what he did.

Robert proceeded walk around and see what the city had to offer. He then looked in his bag and noticed that he was low on supplies. "Uh oh. We may need to restock on supplies," he said as he turn to Misdreavus, who was nowhere in sight, "Not again."

Misdreavus wandered off as looked in his bag and started to explore the city. She then found a dagashi store and saw a small group of people outside of it. Her attention was then directed towards a very grumpy Meowth. It peeked her curiosity as to why it's grumpy, so she floated closer to him from behind.

Otis looked at Skylar, “You have a nice name!” She turned her head over to a boy, who was silently walking up to them. “Hello, would you like to join our talk?” Nia turned her head towards the boy, and hopped over to him.

Euro hissed with a sharp eeeyow, clutching the fish jerky snack in his paws tighter. Tsubaki turned to look at the strange pokemon, surprised by what she found.

"At ease, Euro," she told him, "Looks like we got ourselves a misdreavus. Could prove pretty useful, in battle. Ghost types can't be hit by normal type moves, can they?"

Euro drew back, nodding. "Meowth."

Tsubaki got out a pokeball. "What say we try catching 'im? It's about time I got myself a new pokemon anyway."

As the girl inquired towards him, Navarro stopped dead in his tracks from the unexpected question. He gulped nervously, as even Victor seemed to shrink slightly in the undoubtedly energetic person who had just bound in front of him. They saw me! The trainer thought, panicking. He had to think of a response, and quickly - oh, what to do? And they want me to join them?! Several different outcomes flashed across his brain.

A. They kidnap you and you're never heard from again.

B. They think you're super weird and never talk to you again.

C. They become your friend? Cross out C. And maybe A.

Navarro looked up to the girl, quickly scanning over her with his dark hazel brown eyes.

"Yeah, sorry, uh su - er, sure?" He stammered in an inconsistent pattern of speech, unsure of himself or what he was saying at that very moment in time.

In an attempt to recover the fragmented beginning of a conversation, Navarro said: "Well, what's your name?" he added, quickly stuffing his hands into his pocket as Victor leaped down to the ground, wincing slightly as the crustacean Pokemon landed onto the pavement of Violet City.

Nia looked at Victor, her antennas twitched with excitement. “Veni?” Nia said curiously. Otis giggled a bit when Navarro messed up some of his words before starting all over again. “My name is Otis, so, what is your name?” Otis smiled at Navarro, and she started petting her Venipede on the head.

As Otis giggled at Navarro, the boy felt anxiety begin to slash away at any adamant ideas or feelings he had previously harbored. The notion of these strangers opinion of him not mattering utterly melted away in the face of practical interaction. Victor mumbled "Krab, krab..." apprehensively several times, backing away from the Venipede. He had never seen this queer looking Pokemon before, and it instantly struck him as something dangerous. The crab huddled next to the sneakers that Navarro wore on his feet.

"My name? Right, my name..." Navarro said in quick response, feeling his right hand start to twitch in his pocket. A girl had never interacted with him like this, and she was very clearly younger than him - suffice to say, the boy was extremely puzzled concerning his current circumstances.

"Navarro Jardenil." He finally replied. "And the Krabby is. . ." Navarro wondered for a moment if he should reveal the identity of his Pokemon, though ultimately reasoned that it didn't really matter. They could already see the crab, and it wasn't like he really had anything to hide.

"Victor." He finished.

"So, what's, going o - on here anyways?" Navarro stammered, half - heartedly motioning towards the crowd of young trainers that had been gradually developing.

Misdreavus floated around the Meowth as she was inspecting him, still curious as to why he's so grumpy. She turned to his trainer and wondered why she held out a Pokeball. The ghost type tilted her head for a few seconds and then figured out where this is going. Misdreavus started to float away from the Meowth in order to start making her escape.

Meanwhile, Robert exited the Pokémart after buying the supplies he needed to stock up on. "I hope Misdreavus isn't causing any trouble," he said with a sigh. He knew that Misdreavus has a tendency to wonder off, which could prove a bit troublesome at times.

Tsubaki smirked. "So we've got a runner, have we? Then I suppose it's not worth it," she remarked, "I need pokemon that will fight, not run away at the first sign of trouble. That's not how you win battles, and it's not how you get money..."

Nia walked closer to Victor, wondering why he was afraid. Otis looked at Navarro, “Well, I don’t really know, I just came here, and started talking.” It was true, she didn’t know most of these people, and what they were doing here. Nia walked closer to Victor again, twitching her antennas in a friendly way.

Eliza turned towards Shar and picked him up, the small fire lizard reaching out and holding on to her oversized t-shirt. "When do you have to start traveling?" she mumbled, a touchy subject for them both.

June frowned softly, his eyes growing distant. "Soon..." he managed glancing down. They had both been there when his father had yelled at him, demanding him to be more like normal boys, to gain gym badges and make something of himself...

He knelt down by Bugs and rubbed her metal head. "I was thinking maybe I'll just stick to the area or something... Maybe just go to Violet Town and get a badge to make him happier..."

Eliza shifted uneasily on her feet, holding Shar close. She knew all to well about shouting fathers, even if June's was kinder than hers.

She glanced away at the distance ocean, watching the waves roll towards the beach slowly. "I'm sorry June..."

The curiosity of Victor managed to overcome his fear, as the Krabby tilted its head sideways at the Venipede. He slowly approached it, dragging its claws behind it.

"Krabby krab?" It inquired, continuing to cock its head in curiosity.

Navarro nodded to Otis, mulling over what his reply to the girl should be. After several moments of thinking, and some of his anxiety being eroded after some internal calming down, he finally spoke. "Well, are we gathering a group for a journey, or something? I mean, I've heard of that sort of gathering. These people look around my age." The boy said, noting about the appearance of the others at the end.

This is going to be an interesting day.

Nia looked happily at Victor, “Venipede!” Her antennas flicked from side to side. Otis looked at the group, “Maybe, it would be cool to be in a group of other trainers, but I don’t know, ask one of them about it instead.” Her eyes flashed with sadness, before it got replaced with happiness. “Nia, are you already making a new friend?”

Misdreavus floated away from the Meowth and it's trainer and went looking for Robert. After a few minutes, she found him and flew over to nuzzle her trainer.

Robert watched Misdreavus fly towards him and nuzzle his arm. "There you are," he said to the Ghost-type, "Where have you been? You haven't caused any trouble, have you?"

"Mis," Misdreavus replied after nuzzling Robert's arm.

"Meow..."

Tsubaki glanced back at the dagashi store. She'd gotten lunch for now, but it was probably best to stock up before she left town. Filling up on cheap snacks all the time probably wasn't good for her, but they kept for a long time, they were great for on the go, and they saved her having to waste her precious debt money on more expensive food.

"I'm stocking up, and then I'm leaving town," she said aloud, not that she thought many people were listening, "I'm headed out to catch another pokemon, and then I'm off to the next town. Hear there's a casino I can win big bucks in there, if I pass myself off as twenty."

Navarro rolled his neck in contemplation, wondering what his next course of action would be while he listened for anything else that the girl may address him with. As he pondered, deep in thought, Victor nervously waddled towards the Venipede. "Krabby Kra?" It said curiously, before circling around the alien Pokemon and taking a piercing inspection of the creature. After coming back in front of Nia, the crustacean smiled heartily.

After listening to what Otis had to say, Navarro managed a menial smile. "Well, thanks. Sorry If I was a bit, uh, choppy on the words." He said. "Also, could Victor stay with you for a bit while I go ask some of the people over there about this crowd? It's a lot to task, but I would really appreciate it." The teenager finished, patting the head of the crab Pokemon.

Nia smiled back, her eyes shined with happiness. “Don’t worry, it’s totally fine,” Otis nodded, “And yes, Victor can stay with us until you come back.” Nia looked at Otis, hearing what she had said. Nia jumped up happily, she was really excited.

Skylar laughed, then put an arm around her best friend, Isabell. She hadn’t been listening to the conversations too much, but she listened carefully to the woman in need of money, and saw her get some food. “I can buy some meals to keep you going, charity is always good. You don’t have to leave town, though! We can help! I’ll.. I’ll.. I don’t know! I don’t have a lot of money, but, I want to help you, however long it takes.”

Navarro nodded, forcing a grin towards the girl. She was helpful, generally compliant - if a bit easily excitable, though. It looked as though she had a Venipede, and Victor was conversing in some way with them. It was interesting how Pokemon seemed attracted to each other, even if the Krabby had always been a bit more reserved in his social interactions. Certainly a fascinating prospect, however sadly something that the inquisitive boy did not have time to contemplate or record in his current scenario. Yes, it was time to move, and though some may label Navarro as paranoid, he was sure the girl could not bring any harm to Victor. After all, they were able to defend themselves if need come to be, and she seemed trustworthy enough. But somewhat unusually cheerful.

Navarro gulped, glancing over to the larger group of trainers. He felt the infection of anxiety beginning to proliferate throughout his brain, however he began to internally battle it as well as he could. If the boy was going to truly actually socially interact, he would have to do it well - first impressions were everything, he remembers his guidance counselor saying. He paused for a moment, wondering who he should first approach, eventually deciding on the somewhat peculiar looking girl from earlier. Tank top, dog tags? Odd.

Victor looked towards Nia, and craned his head upwards as far as it could go, which turned out was not very far. After this, the crab began spewing water out of its mouth in a fountain like formation - something it vaguely remembered Navarro teaching it to do previously. First impressions were everything, after all.

His hands shook. Navarro decided to stow his fear for the moment, and finally speak up. He was nearing the girl now. Oh, god. I shouldn't have come here in the first place. The trainer frantically thought. She looked about his age, and - too late. He was there.

"Is a group gathering here? For, say, an expedition of sorts?" Navarro said, slowly and concisely, with some spacing between each word.

ooc

(this is directed to tsubaki, if you could not already tell. just a clarification.)

Tsubaki cocked an eyebrow at him. "If the expedition involves me getting my hands on a ton of money, well, enough to save my orphanage, then I guess so," she replied, "Euro could use some sparring partners, anyway. I've been meaning to get some more pokemon, but the only useful one I van think of so far is a murkrow. Those things like shiny things. Shiny, valuable things..."

Navarro furrowed his brow, mulling over the short snippet of information the girl had given him. Sure, he could be labeled as having a tendency to overanalyze things by some, or many, but it was a bit of a habit. . . and so he took a moment to dissect her words carefully and methodically, his face blank as he did so.

The girl had a fascination with money, certainly. And she mentioned something about an orphanage, though she certainly seemed to young to actually practically manage an endeavor such as this. Maybe she had a sort of guardian running the place? Odd, certainly odd. She was also in possession of a Meowth, a Pokemon known for the insatiable greed that it bears - like trainer, like Pokemon Navarro presumed.

"You own an orphanage? How come?" Navarro inquired, his nervousness being overtaken by his inquisitive nature.

Tsubaki shook her head. "Well, technically, it's not mine. It's owned and run by Fumiko-san," she explained, "I just live there. But a few months ago, Fumiko-san had to borrow some money from some shady guys, cause she was behind on our taxes. Now she's in tons of debt, and if she can't find a way to pay it off, Camellia House is gonna be shut down, and I'm gonna lose the only home I've ever had..."

Tsubaki glanced back at Euro. "So I'm going to pay it off for her. It's the least I owe her, for taking me in," she sighed, "Oka-san doesn't want me, and Otou-san doesn't even know I exist, so..."

Robert walked around Violet City and came across the gym. He carefully inspected it and then turned his attention towards the sign as it reveals the gym leader and the type of Pokémon they use. Robert thought to himself a bit and said, "I don't think we're ready. We should train a bit and maybe catch a new Pokémon." He then proceeded to walk away from the gym with Misdreavus floating behind him.

As Robert walked in the direction of the town's exit, he saw the dagashi store and a small group of people outside of it.

Misdreavus noticed this as well and had an 'oh crap' expression as she stopped mid-air and saw the girl and Meowth from before.

Robert proceeded to stop as well after seeing Misdreavus stop. "Something wrong?" He asked the ghost-type.

Cassandra shook her head. She hated new people, and she slowly inserted her palm into her mouth and bit down hard. It was an annoying little habit she possessed, and she only did such things when she was nervous or excited. Anxiety creeped up her spine, and Naboris looked up at her with worried eyes. The little bug - type knew that when to much pressure was placed onto Cassandra's shoulders, the girl could sometimes suffer from small seizures.

Cassandra took a deep breath and steadied herself. The Venipede in her arms let out a small sigh of relief and slumped slightly. Cassandra peered around and noticed a boy and a Misdreavus staring at the group.

Skylar smiled at the sight of Cassandra, “Cassandra! So good to see you!” She hugged her, seeing her shaking and trying to steady herself, “Are you alright?” She patted her shoulder, then turned to Tsubaki again, “I only want to help because you seem like a good willed person who just wants to protect what you love. There’s nothing wrong with that.” She gave the woman a small smile, then patted a light finger on the Meowth’s head. “I like Meowth’s, they’re funny!”

Euro blinked, staying dead still, in reaction to being petted. He, like Tsubaki, was used to being on guard, used to having to defend himself at the flick of a switch. When you were in care, that was what you had to do, lest the other kids pick up on it and get to you.

"I could use all the help I can get," she answered, "It won't be just me who ends up screwed if that place closes down, after all. All the other kids will be, too."

Misdreavus turned her attention away from the girl and Meowth and spots a Venipede in another girl's arms. She flew away from Robert and towards the Venipede to get a closer look as the ghost-type has never one before.

"Where are you going?" Robert asked and watched his Misdreavus got a closer look at the Venipede. He then noticed that the girl holding the bug-type was turned towards him. He sighed as he made his way towards her. "I'm sorry," he said to the girl holding the Venipede, "My Misdreavus tends to wander off at times."

"It's fine," Cassandra said quietly. New people! Her head hurt. "It's nice to meet ... you, and your Misdreavous." Naboris looked up at her, and she leaned over and gently set the Venipede on the ground. He sniffed around for a few moments, then looked up at the ghost - type floating above him. He chirped, and his eyes seemed to widen as he stared at the other Pokemon.

"I don't think Naboris has seen a gohst - type before," Cassandra noted, watching the Venipede. "He's usually quite shy when meeting new Pokemon." Naboris nodded chirruped again.

Misdreavus watched as the girl set the Venipede and proceeded to float down towards the bug-type. "Vus," the ghost-type said after the Venipede chirped.

"I see," Robert said to the girl as he watched the two Pokémon interact, "Now that I think about it, I don't think my Misdreavus has ever seen a bug-type like yours before either."

Nia looked at Victor in amazment, he was spewing water in a cool formation. Her antennas twitched with excitement, and Nia crawled forward. Otis looked at the Venipede and Krabby, she felt much happier watching them. She did a little sigh, and sat next to Nia, who was still looking at Victor and the water formation. Otis pet Nia softly, and smiled.

Skylar turned to the whole group who had now formed, "If we're all sticking together, should we go do something?" She gave them all a warm smile, then eyed Tsubaki, "If it involves cash, I can pay." Shinx jumped up at Skylar's feet, "Shinx! Shinx!" It nodded furiously, obviously excited to get around town.

Navarro just sort of watched the rest of the conversing that the group had to do, his hands remaining dormant inside of his pockets. The surge of curiosity still laid within his conscience, and while the feeling was present, the boy decided he would have to make at another attempt of receiving information from the strangers. If he allowed himself to simply recede back into himself, the entire endeavor would have been entirely pointless - and it wasn't like he had been making much progress on this adventure anyways, had he? Sudden flashes of regret and anxious contemplation danced briefly across his mind.

Should he have even set out on the first place? Was the prominent thought. Attempting to distance himself as far away from these negative thoughts as possible, Navarro regained his focus onto the decidedly 'edgy' girl. If he wanted to stimulate a semblance of a conversation, then it would be necessary to attempt a different approach, no matter how odd or random of an inquiry he thought it may seem.

"I - I don't believe that I caught your name." Navarro said to the girl of seemingly asian descent.

“Maybe it is a good idea to go find more Pokemon, I want an Eevee. It has so many possibilities, doesn’t it?” Skylar started into the sky for a moment, remembering all the eeveelutions that she loved. “I’m heading out to the grass now, then. Any of you are free to come!” She patted Isabell’s shoulder, turning her head to gesture her to come, then gestured to Cassandra.

When Skylar got out into the grass, Shinx started to run wild, trying to find a Pokemon for its trainer. She laughed, seeing the Pokemon go wild for her. “Calm down, I’ll get something-“ Before she could finish, a Hoothoot jumped out, hooting to the pair.

Tsubaki, meanwhile, went for a murder of murkrows. She crept up on them while they were occupied with an espeon carcass, trying to gauge their worth. Strong ones, were what she wanted. No, the strongest was what she wanted. Nothing else would do.

After Tony and the Riolu bought a few items such as Poke balls and potions, the pair proceeded to go into the woods to look for Pokemon, undeterred by the group who appeared to have the same plan. As they walked, the Riolu called out to him. "What is it, Lena?" Tony asked nonchalantly as he walked toward the Riolu who appeared to have found a distressed Munchlax who seemed to be injured. "Poor thing..." Tony said as he went to pet the Munchlax who flinched lightly at first, but let Tony pet him. "Here... hold still." Tony said as he got out a Potion and went to spray it on the Munchlax's wound.

Tsubaki glanced over, when Euro tugged on her trouserleg. There was a particularly large Murkrow, who appeared to be trying to pick a fight with a Honchkrow, and losing, badly. The Honchkrow was dishing out blow after blow, while the murkrow could barely hold up a protect to it.

"That Honchkrow looks pretty mean," Tsubaki remarked, "A hard-hitter is just what we need, if we wanna win prize money from battles. Gonna take a lotta work to catch it, though."

"Meowth!"

"Plus, if we catch it, that murkrow ain't gonna have anyone around to bully it anymore," Tsubaki remarked, "I hate the big dons. Always looking down on the small ones just because they can. Just so they can rob more cash from them, even though they don't need it. But that Honchkrow could become a useful ally, with strict training."

Euro nodded, getting into position, as Tsubaki called out, "Furt swipes!"

Skylar bit her lip, staring at the Hoothoot. Shinx looked up with unamusement, “Shinx, Shinx?” Skylar saw it turn to the Hoothoot waiting for a battle, “Maybe I do want it..” She quickly called for Isabell, “Isabell? Should I get this Hoothoot? It’s kind of cool, isn’t it?” She grinned at it, then realised it was getting bored waiting, and Shinx ran in front, “Shinx, Bite! Keep your hold of it for now!” @Pokémon Golder
