Pokemon Festival

((OC: That's fine. We'll postpone your fights until later.))

Carrie reached up to pat the Rilou on its head. "He's cute," She said, whipping out her 'Dex and recording the data. "He's a fighting type, right? He looks like one." She turned to smile at Ben. "And thanks. My Pokemon have seen a lot, but I wouldn't change them for the world."

Espeon scoffed, turning his head away from his mushy trainer. Jolteon twitched his ears in acknowledgement and looked up briefly, grinning at her with his eyes. Raichu stopped her shadow boxing and put her paw behind her head, 'chu'ing in embarassment.

A sudden, loud, rhythmic drumming caught her attention, and she leapt away from the stage as it started to shake. A voice clicked on over the intercom.

"Welcome, Pokemon trainers and spectators alike! Today is the premier of the Pokemon Festival's new annual event: The Plateau Challenge! This event is meant to test those who hope to enter the League each coming year, and those who win can consider themselves well prepared.

Now for the Rules: Use of Dragonite and Gyarados is restricted. Every battle except the last will be two-on-two battles. Only three Pokemon per trainer may be used, and no switchouts are allowed. Each Round consists of two battles. The victors of these battles will proceed to the next round, and the victors of that battle will then compete against their partner for First Place. You can find the list of prizes on the bulletin board over there," A light shined down on said bulletin board, ten feet away from the small group, "and the Tournament will start when both teams are on the stage.

First battle: Sonjo from Oldale Town and Carrie from Pallet Town against Jeanne from Azalea Town and Lsyerg from Ecruteak City. Will both parties please step onto the stage?"

Carrie cheered. "Cool! Sonjo, we're on the same team!" She grabbed him by the arm and began to drag him onto the stage. Her Pokemon followed her excitedly. "Let's go!"

"Alright! That's what I like to hear!" Sonjo rushed onto the stage. Seeing the crowd cheering, and some even taking pictures. He waved to the audience, as if he were the star of the battle.

After that, Sonjo grinned as he reached for a pokeball. "Alright... Go, Altaria!" With a flash of light, the cloudy bird pokemon let took flight.

((OC: By the way, notice who we're fighting? I did that 'cause we both hate those two from SK.))

The short, green haired boy on the other team hesitated a moment, before letting fly a Pokeball. He said nothing as a large figure materialized, taking on the shape of a Clefable. It chirped happily.

Carrie grinned and grabbed for a Pokeball. "A Clefable, eh? Then let's go, Mischief!"

The Misdreavus shot out of his Pokeball, floating up next to Altaria. He grinned roguishly.

((OC: You may come up with Jeanne's Pokemon. I picked a fairy for Lyserg (obvious reasons :p)))

The silver haired girl held her pokeball close, then threw it, shouting "Go, Solrock!" The sun-shaped rock took its place, hovering just beside of its Clefable partner.

"Alright. Altaria, start with Dragonbreath at Solrock! " The blue bird took a deep breath in, and let out blue flames at the firey pokemon. It was a direct hit!

((I chose the Sun-shaped pokemon for the sun-god oversoul.))

((OC: Ah, excellent choice. :) ))

Carrie's smile turned into a smirk as she watched the Solrock take Altaria's attack.

"Mischeif, Confuse Ray!"

Mischief chirped an affirmative and began to glow, the glow moving to his eyes as the power built. With a cry the Confuse Ray burst forth in a wave of purple, washing towards the Clefable.

"Clefable, dodge!" The young, green haired trainer called out, and the Pokemon was almost out of range before the Ray hit it's side, sending it wobbling about in a daze. "Clefable! Clefable, Doubleslap!"

The Clefable whirled about drunkenly, attempting to find the source of it's trainer's voice, but ending up tripping itself instead. It lay on the ground for a moment, before pushing itself to it's feet.

The iron maiden  thought for a moment then gave the command, "Solrock, Flamethrower to your attacker!" The wave of fire came towards Altaria. It took the hit, still standing strong afterwords. "Fire's no good against Dragon pokemon! Altaria, reply with Steel Wing!" The bird's wings shimmered, and connected with Solrock. It even looked to be critical. Jeanne gasped as her Solrock fainted. She sent it back, and sent her next pokemon, a Magneton.

Carrie's smirk grew wider as the Clefable shook off the Confusion Ray and charged Mischief.

The Clefable came in full contact, swinging it's hand with enough power to make the air whistle, coming towards Mischief...

And fazing through.

Lyserge stepped back, shock playing across his face. "What!?"

Carrie humphed triumphantly at him. "Normal attacks have no effect against Ghost types. Mischief, Psychic!"

The Clefable rose from the ground, arrested in movement and glowing brightly, before being thrown violently towards the opponent's Magneton. Both went crashing to the ground. Clefable lay across the stage, eyes whirling madly. It had fainted.

Lyserg was freaking out. "NO! The X-Laws can't lose to you! Morphine, get up!" The Clefable didn't move. "Grr...Morphine!"

After a moment he sighed and recalled it. "Fine. Let's try this...Gardevoir!"

The Gardevoir emerged in a haze of white light, facing Mischief squarely.

((OC: I'm mean.))

(I'm laughing. It's Jeanne's turn now.)

Sonjo smirked at the clustered magnet. Even though it was steel, it was still not a much of a threat. The silver-haired maiden steeled herself.

"Magneton, tri-attack!" Her Magneton generated orbs of blue, red, and blue. The elemental attack head towards Sonjo's Altaria. He scoffed, while Altaria avoided the move.

"Now, counter with Dragon Pulse!" As if on cue, the dragon-bird released a single shot of fire, which spread into many as it hit the hovering-magnet, Sending it backward. "Oh no!"

Carrie regarded the Gardevoir with stunned curiosity. Did this kid not know the type advantage Ghosts had over Psychics?

"Gardevoir, Psychic!"

Apparently not. Carrie sighed as the attack began to crush Mischief. This guy didn't do his homework.

"Mischief, Pain Split!"

The Psychic's aura suddenly turned a blinding blue, and with an aching cry from Mischief a chunk of it went hurtling back towards Gardevoir, hitting it directly and sending it stumbling. It recovered quickly, however, and the two Pokemon watched each other cautiously.

"Gardevoir, Healing Wish!"

Carrie scowled as the Psychic began to regain health. Mischief turned to her for direction.

"Use Mean Eyes!"

He nodded and turned to Gardevoir, arresting it in the act and freezing it in place.

"Now, Shadow Ball!"

The crackling ball of dark energy formed swiftly in front of Mischief, and was sent hurtling towards it's enemy. It hit head on, and the Gardevoir keeled over.

Lyserg grit his teeth as he recalled his Pokemon. "I'm really starting to dislike you. But it's a shame you weren't on my team; I need stronger allies."

The next Pokemon he sent out surprised her. A Houndoom growled at her Pokemon menacingly, and Carrie knew she had a problem.

((Strong ally reference. XD))

The Magneton wasn't quite finished yet. Jeanne had an unusually calm look in her eyes, which Sonjo didn't quite understand. "Go, my Magneton! Use Spark!" The Magneton came rushing at Altaria, veiled in electric. It connected, which sent Altaria back a few meters. Nothing to be concerned with, though.

"Finish it, Altaria! Fire Blast!" Altaria howled, as it released the dreaded star of fire upon the steel-electric pokemon. It lay on the ground, all three eyes swirling. "What a dissapointment..." She sent Magneton back, then sending out Flygon.

((OC: I know, I'm a SK geek. 8) Me-sa proud. Perhaps we'll encounter Hao later... ;D ))

Carrie felt sweat begin to form on her forehead as she eyed the Houndoom. Fire and Dark together boded very badly for Mischief. Mischief seemed to sense this, as he floated back a bit. The Houndoom stalked closer, a cruel look in it's eyes. Carrie had no idea what the boy had done to the creature, but it looked very, very bloodthirsty.

Lyserg got the first strike in. "Houndoom, go! Faint Attack!"

Carrie swore loudly as the Houndoom disspeared and reappeared behind Mischief, sending him flying across the stage. She knew that only one move would work against this thing, but she didn't want to do it.

Houndoom used Faint Attack again, and Mischief was beginning to take some serious damage. If she didn't use it now, she wouldn't get another chance...

"Mischief!" She called out reluctantly, "Use Perish Song!"

Mischief gave her an understanding look and let loose an eerie sound, notes ringing a ghostly melody around the stage. The Houndoom twitched, trying to shake it off, and used Faint Attack again on command. It hit, but the return was wobbly, and it began to sway.

Mischief was hurting after that hit, but he sang on, and he was beginning to visibly tremble. Two attacks later Mischief was on his last breath, trying hard not to faint. The Houndoom was trying hard not to give in, too, as it tremored and swayed about, trying to stay awake.

Lyserg was cursing as both Pokemon fell to the ground simultaneously, eyes whirling madly. Carrie recalled Mischief and whispered an apology. Lyserg was fuming as he was escorted off the stage.

"And all that's left now is Jeanne and her Flygon!" The announcer started, shocking several people who had forgotten about the intercom completely. "The fight looks just about done!"

Carrie turned to help with Jeanne, contemplating which to use before sending out Lapras. She called out to Sonjo as she ordered Lapras to use Ice Beam.

"He won't be able to move freely, so be careful!"

Jeanne's Flygon dodged. Jeanne smile gently, as she ordered Flygon, "Use Hyper Beam on Altaria!" The blazing beam hit Altaria, sending it backwords and hit the ground roughly.

"Crap, Altaria!" The cloudy dragon tried its best to get up, but to no avail. It fainted, and Sonjo was forced to return it to its pokeball. He thought on it breifly, then proclaimed "Sudowoodo! Go!" The pokeball released Sudowoodo , slightly stuck in place. (As a tree would be) "Now, Sudowoodo! Rock Slide!" The Flygon was then showered in rocks. A rock tumbled over, revealing Flygon's swirling eyes. It was over.

"Flygon is unable to battle! Sonjo and Carrie are the Victors!"

Carrie sweatdropped. "Nice." She was a bit dissapointed that it was over already, as she hardly ever got to use Lapras in battle due to his lack of mobility. Lapras, however, was perfectly content with their win, and cooed as she recalled him. She hopped off the stage, and smiled up at Sonjo.

"That battle wasn't too bad, was it? Anyways, let's head to the Center to heal up. Poor Mischief..."

Sonjo recalled Sudowoodo, then nodded. "That was awesome! Your pokemon were great." He hopped off the stage and took Altairia's pokeball out. " We sure did take some considerable hits though. We'll do even better next round."

"...That's the second time we've been defeated by trainers with the looks of you too..." Jeane said reletively loudly. Sonjo turned around, raising a brow.

Carrie smiled. "I hope so, and your Pokemon are pretty awesome, too. I love your Altaria." She stopped talking, looking guilty and sad for a moment. "I hate using Perish Song, though," She continued, softly. "I feel so guilty, making him faint just so I can win the match." She realized Sonjo wasn't next to her anymore, though, and stopped.

Jeanne stood behind them, watching them both with a serene expression. Carrie found it creepy that she could look like that when she had just been defeated.

"Pardon?"

"Yes." Jeanne cleared her throat. "We expreinced trainers in the Johto region with the same looks of you two. They battled feircly, with a SlowKing and a powerful Charmander."

Sonjo's curiosity grew. His brother, Zeikku has a Slowking. Moreover, his older borther did look a lot like himself.

Carrie stiffened completely, her face darkening.

"Powerful Charmander, you say...?" she queried softly, a glint of certainty and uncertainty in her eyes creating a conflict. "Looks like us, you say?" She 'feh'd. "Is one sexist?"

"I would believe so, considering all of his pokemon was of the same gender..." Jeanne sighed. "Further more, their power is equal. When we were defeated, one of them stated ' This is the fate of weak trainers and their pokemon. Know your place and necer come back.' "

Sonjo face just showed the fearfullness of who she was talking about. It HAD to be Zeikku, it sounded like his discust for everything weak. "No way..."

Carrie took note of Sonjo's fear, and her expression turned deadly serious. "And you say these two were together?" She asked, apprehension creeping into her voice. That man was strong enough on his own, but if Sonjo feared this other trainer, than it could only spell catastrophe. "They were together, and they seemed to be equal?" That made the situation even worse.

"Yes... I know nothing further than that." Jeanne turned to Lyserg, but not before giving them a parting gift. " Oh, and before I forget. They wanted me to pass this message to every trainer I meet, and for them to pass it along themselves. 'They give regards to their lesser halves'." They walked away after giving the message.

Sonjo sighed to himself. He noted that Carrie was also concerned about this rumor. He looked for something to take this off his mind temporaly, and looked at Altaria's pokeball. "...We'd better get to the Pokemon Center."

Carrie looked around, wondering how much time they had left before their next match. "You're right. Let's hurry."

The Pokemon Center was close by and, compared to the crowds earlier, was positively deserted. Nurse Joy looked absurdly relieved, and cheerfully took their Pokemon to be healed. Carrie sat down on a nearby seat, bringing her knees to her chest yet being careful of her long skirt.

The rumor worried her. Far more than she'd be willing to let on, or even believe herself. That ass was supposed to be in Hoenn, or Sinnoh, or anywhere but within range for her to get wind of him. She grit her teeth and grasped the silver bolt charm at her neck tightly.

Sonjo sat down in the chair across from her, Combusken sitting next to him. "Do you know who they might have been talking about? I might know who one was... but you looked like you knew the other." Combusken looked cocerned for both trainers.

Sonjo was recieving dark moments of his brother back from when he had obtained the 8 badges in Hoenn. He could still hear Zeikku's words ringing. 'You're so pathetic as a trainer. Devolping bounds with your pokemon is meaningless and nothing more than a waste of time. Your defeat is further proof of that.'

Carrie scowled deeply, and swiftly hid her face against her knees to keep Sonjo from seeing it.

"Definitely. My older brother was always so condescending, so sexist. I've no doubt it's him. He's so in love with that Charmander of his he never let it evolve." Her scowl turned into a glare. "But he shouldn't be in Johto, or anywhere near there. He was supposed to be heading to Sinnoh!"

((OOC: if one of you guys could temporarily take the role of my partner that would be great as i really dont want to have to controll four trainers at once))

Ben was truly blown away by the battle that Carrie and Sonjo had fought. They had made it seem so easy, like they weren't really trying. Like it was natural for them to win. But what was the deal with them storming off to the pokemon center?
He was about to follow them when an anouncment came on:

Next up is Ben from Sandgem of Sinnoh and Jack from Azalea of Jhoto! They will facing Rose from Floroma of Sinnoh and Rachel from Lilycove of Hoenn!

Ben almost did a double take.
"I'm facing Rose!"

((OOC: i will choose rose's pokemon, k?))

((OC: Squee! Ben is back! ^_^ *Tackles him* Let's get this show on the road! I'll control Jack and Rachel, if you want, though I get to choose their Pokemon. I'll give Jack strong Pokemon, I promise. ;) Jack can fight Rachel kk?))

Jack signalled for Ben to get on the stage with him. Across from him Rachel climbed onto the lit ground, a Pokeball already in hand. With a shout, she threw it into the air. A tall figure materialized before her.

"Blaze!" A Blaziken stood in the center of the stage, cracking its knuckles in anticipation. Jack reached for his own Pokeball.

"Go, Corsola!"

The coral Pokemon chirped as it emerged, facing the Blaziken down.

((OC: Rachel's Pokemon: Blaziken, Mightyena, Pelipper, Swellow;
Jack's Pokemon: Corsola, Meganium, Ampharos, Heracross, Kingdra, Steelix. If you need to know their moves and weaknesses for later Psypoke is an excellent reference site.))

((OOC: "AAAAHHH!! I've been tackled! K, that is fine, i will controll Rose))

Ben hoped up on stage, and just looked at Rose. She had definatly grown physicly, at least. But had she becom more mature? Well, the battle would tell him that. She looked at him back, then looked away and yelled "Go Roserade!"
The roserade made a truly spectacular entrance.
Then Ben yelled "Go Smeargle!"
He knew this battle was going to be tough, because this time, his feelings for Rose were going to get in the way.

((OOC: Rose's pokemon: Roserade, Wormadame, Cherrime, Carnivine, and Torterra (torterra is the only one of rose's pokemon that ben does not know about) ))

Jack paid no attention to Ben's battle, focusing on his fight against his opponent's Blaziken.

"Blaziken, Double Kick!"

The Blaziken charged Corsola, approaching at an incredible speed.

"Harden!"

Corsola glowed brightly as Blaziken delivered the double blow, scraping back a bit. Jack waited with baited breath, and was relieved when Corsola emerged relatively unscathed.

"Now, while it's close! Use Bubblebeam!"

The wave of bubbles hit Blaziken full force, knocking him back. Rachel gasped.

"Blaziken!"

As it began to get up, however, Jack order Corsola to use Spikes. Many of them littered the area around them, and Blaziken cried out as he stepped on them.

"That's how you're going to play? Fine! Blaziken, Blaze Kick!"

The Blaziken charged Corsola again, crying out every other step as he encountered the Spikes. Jack waited until he was almost upon Corsola before giving the order.

"Corsola, Mirror Coat!"

Corsola glowed as brightly as before, and the Blaziken pushed the kick down upon the coral Pokemon. They struggled against each other's power for a moment, before a cry from Corsola sent Blaziken flying back within a haze of his own fire. He landed on his back, swirly eyes. Rachel recalled him.

"Fine. Go, Mightyena!"

((OOC: wont be back again till 8:00pm, sry))

Rose made the first move.
"Roserade, use razor leaf!"
Ben called to Smeargle "Dodge it and use flamethrower!"
Smeargle barly dodged the attack, a leafe just barly managed to skim its cheek. Then it did as Ben told it to. The flamethrower was a direct hit and super efective! Roserade was just barley holding on! Rose looked really worried, and as a result, made Ben feel a little guilty. Then she yelled "Use cut!" With lightning speed the roserade came up and slashed at Smeargle. It only did a little bit of damage. "Smeargle," Ben yelled "finish this with iron tail!" Smeargle nodded and obayed. It hit roserade with iron tail and roserade fainted. Rose looked really sad, which made Ben feel even more guilty, and then she withrew Roserade. Then she yelled, "Go! Carnivine!"

The Mightyena stalked in a wide circle around Corsola, eyeing it up and down for a crack in the coral Pokemon's defense. Jack watched its progress with a hawk's eye, wondering what technique it would use first.

He didn't have to wait long.

"Taunt!"

Jack grit his teeth as the attack took effect over Corsola; it wouldn't be able to use defensive moves anymore.

"Corsola, Bubblebeam!"

The Mightyena managed to dodge the majority of the attack, but it took some damage. The two Pokemon eyed each other warily.

"Mightyena, Take Down!"

Jack ordered Corsola to use Aqua Ring as the Mightyena charged it and hit it head on. Both Pokemon suffered some damage, but Corsola's move managed to recover some of its health.

"Corsola, while he's close! Bubblebeam!"

Rachel had now fallen for the tactic twice, and Mightyena was blown back several feet as the attack connected. It was still standing, but it taken quite a bit of damage. It growled angrily.

"Assurance!"

The Mightyena moved faster than Jack could see, and within the next moment Corsola was struggling to stand by his feet, having taken considerable damage. He eyed the Dark dog warily.

"Corsola, Recover!"

The glow brought back a good amount of Corsola's health, but it wasn't enough to make it strong enough to withstand another attack. The Mightyena charged with another Take Down.

"Spike Cannon!"

Each spike shot off smacked the dog in the face as it charged, and with each hit he slowly weakened. He collided with Corsola, and both Pokemon fell down, having fainted. Corsola was recalled, as was Mightyena, and Jack called upon Steelix. Rachel brought out Pelipper.

After awhile, Nurse Joy had brought a tray containing two pokeballs. She set them down on the table that sat in between of the two trainers. Sonjo took Altaria's pokeball, which had several small scratches on it. He was settled from the last battle, though still a bit concerned. "We should be getting back to the stage." Sonjo said, after exhaling.

Carrie nodded and stood, gathering Mischief's Pokeball on her way out.

"Yeah, let's go. Ben should be battling right now."

The stage was coming into view, and Carrie could tell that a fierce battle was already underway. She fought her way back to the spot they had before in order to watch.

Sonjo, standing beside Carrie, saw the four pokemon on the arena. Combusken seemed to be getting even more exiliarated than before. Don't worry, Combusken. I'll use you next match.

Carnivine made a grand entrance that got a few people ooing and awwing.

"Smeargle! Use flamethrower!"

"Carnivine! Dodge it and use Vine whip!"

The carnivine dodged the flamethrower and managed to whip Smeargle, and a fair amount of damage was taken. But as the Carnivine started to withdraw its vines, Smeargle grabbed on and rode them right to Carnivine! He then hit the Carnivine right on the head! Both Smeargle and Carnivine took damage.
"Great jod Smeargle! Now, finish it with flamthrower!"
The flamethrower hit an fainted the carnivine. Rose withdrew it and yelled "Go Torterra!"
'Torterra?' thought Ben. 'Thats a suprise.' But then again, thats what he'd always loved about her: her ability to suprise. Thats what he still loved about her.

The Pelipper took off into the air, circling around Steelix's head.

"Water Pulse!"

A great ring of water came plowing out of the bird's mouth, smashing into Steelix's head and knocking him over.

"Steelix, Iron Tail!"

As the Steelix crumpled over sideways its tail came searing through the air, knocking the Pelipper down next to it.

"Steelix, Bind!"

Before the Pelipper could get its wings working once more Steelix curled around it, crushing it in its powerful grip.

"Grr...Stockpile!"

Pelipper began to glow faintly, looking less and less affected by the Bind attack as each second passed.

"Spit Up!"

The Pelipper's glow faded away, and for a brief moment it appeared to be choking on something. Within the next second, however, it spat a large ball of energy into Steelix's face, forcing its grip to loosen. The Steel Pokemon stumbled.

"Steelix, use Thunger Fang!"

Steelix righted itself fairly quickly and lurched after the Pelipper, which had taken a spot in the air once again. It attempted to fly out of reach, and had almost succeeded before Steelix clipped it on the side. Pelipper fell out of flight with a crash, revealing swirling eyes as the dust cleared.

Rachel recalled her Pokemon, and as she left the stage the intercom came on. "All right, now it's Rose and her Torterra against Jack's Steelix and Ben's Smeargle!"

"Hey Jack? Would you mind stepping down for this last battle? It's not that I want to steal your spotlight, it's just that Rose and I have a bit of a history, and I feel It's my battle to complete."

Jack eyed him for a moment before nodding, jumping off the stage carelessly. Whispers sprung up around the crowd as he stepped down.

"What's this? It looks like Jack has withdrawn from the battle! Now it's Ben against Rose--who will take victory in this tense match?"

Ben winked Jack a quick 'thanks'.

"Alright Smeargle! Iron tail now!"

Smeargles tail glowed silver and hit Torterra.

"Grr....Torterra! Use stomp!"

With astounding speed for a pokemon it's size, torterra jumped up and came down hard on Smeargle.

Oh no! One more hit like that and Smeargle is outta here!

"Torterra! Headbut!"
"Smeargle! Flamethrower!"

Torterra hit smeargle just as it released flames. Both pokemon took damage and both fainted.

And thats the match! Winners, Ben and Jack!!!

'Oy Vey!' thought Ben. 'It's gonna be hard to talk to Rose after this!'

Carrie applauded enthusiastically as Ben and his partner won the match. Jack had departed into the crowd somewhere before Carrie could catch sight of him and congratulate him, but that wouldn't stop her from doing the same for Ben.

"Grats, buddy! Now you get to fight us next round!"
