Our News/Leaks Policy

This has already come up today, and will only come up again over the next few months, so it's worth spelling out what our policy is on covering Pokémon news:

Leaks and Rumours

For the most part, we will never report on leaks or rumours about specific details in upcoming Pokémon games. Even if a 'leak' is backed up by official information revealed later on, we will still be considering it an unreliable source and will not cover it until it is officially announced.

We have this policy for a few reasons. The first is that any information that you read on the news we post here should be 100% trustworthy and accurate. Leaks and rumours, no matter how apparently reliable they may be, will still never meet that required minimum level. People posting leaks can very easily get specific details wrong, even if they're broadly correct, so even leaks that have been 'proven right' are still incredibly unreliable.

We also seek to respect people's choice to enjoy the pre-release period of a Pokémon game and the information bombs we get as a result. People enjoy seeing new features in action, learning about new Pokémon for the first time etc with actual quality video, screenshots and artwork. We seek to always make sure we present the latest information about these games in the best possible way - and it isn't possible to do that when the information is just badly written quote text on an image board.

Some information will only be officially revealed after the game is released - and some fans take a lot of enjoyment of finding those details out for themselves. So we also seek to not spoil that kind of information and respect that choice.

Exceptions?

As with any rule there will always be exceptions. We try to make sure our approach here is a broad stroke. If a supposed 'leak' indicates the existence of a previously entirely unknown game, we will choose to cover that based on how reliable that information may be seen to be. If a game feature is related to a piece of hardware that is leaked or rumoured, we may cover that as well.

In general, our aim is to only cover game features and new Pokemon as and when they are officially revealed. On the day that they are, we will post a news feature to round up the information and may later post opinion pieces delving deeper into it. In the round up information will be 100% factual - presenting the information as it's officially given to us. In later articles we might speculate further, though. This may or may not end up mentioning or being inspired by possible leaks or rumours, but we'll always clearly flag them as such.

Discussing leaks

This is typically a rule directed more at the release period of a new Pokémon game than anything else, but it also applies to 'proven' leaks in general out of respect for those wishing to not be 'spoiled' by such. Discussion of information from such leaks, posting 'leaked' Pokémon or - as and when the games themselves leak prior to release - detailing any information from those leaked games - is strictly forbidden.

This rule is enforced in a very soft manner - we will seek to edit out the offending content from your post and will ask you not to do it again. Only repeated action will result in official warnings, etc. But we very much ask you to stick to this for the sake of everyone else's enjoyment.
