Private/Closed Little Hearts (Travel Roleplay)

Bonjour, my friends, to the Kalos region. Come now, sit and listen. Get cozy and indulge yourself in surreal fantasies spun by the words of the mouth; the story of our little, brave hearts, perhaps? You must know, all fantasies begin with Once Upon a Time, but unfortunately, there is no such beginning to this tale. Maybe, it's not even a fantasy, but rather, a stretch of reality, or the fabric of some foreign tongue that wove its way into misinterpreted English.

Nonetheless, my friends, The Beginning was cold.

Rather simple in stature, Dendemille Town was little more than a tiny inkling of a habitat for the few people that lived there; it's small size pushed its popularity down to the dark depths of the distortion world. The grand, neighboring Frost Cavern mountains bore down upon the town menacingly for years upon years; a cold winter grasped the village with its icy talons regularly, and most of the futile attempts to cultivate the land crops failed due to the horrible, bitter cold. Those with weak blood evacuated the town, after all, how could one make a living in a town that can't grow anything? Those who couldn't escape the cold were left to preform laberous, arduous, and fairly perilous work in the cavernous crevices of the cold land mass, the Frost Cavern of course.

Then, the ray of sunshine peaked through. A trainer and his Pokémon emerged from the blizzard under the shadow of night, his hands coarse and dry from constant exposure to the cold. A single light illuminated the night from the feeble flame of the wounded Pokémon that sludged through the snow beside his trainer; his heat slowly fading with the overwhelming exhaustion. The lights were dim inside the houses of Dendemille, the inhabitants shivering in fear of the dreaded cold. The child of one house spotted the duo, her eyes widened with awestruck wonder and curiosity. Her warm heart had yet been touched by the evil, cruel, cold of the Caverns, and the light she emitted from her eyes reflected an untouched soul; a soul saved from humanity's equally cold influence. With only a jacket and thin tennis shoes to protect her little body from the cold, the child ran to greet the duo in the blizzard to offer them sanctuary in the empty room of her house.

The trainer found great courage and potential in the fearless girl before him, and kindly refused her offer. Instead, he presented her with an egg; its speckled surface shook once in the exposure of the bitter cold. With a mighty roar, the Pokémon with a flaming tail revived his spirits and spouted fire from his grand jaws, looking back down at the child with stunning blue eyes. His wings extended to the size of many trees in length, and snow billowed up in the wake of his ascent to the darkened sky. The trainer watched happily, and sighed in relief; his breath billowing warm frost. From the mighty cavern echoed a ferocious roar and a blaze of light- then nothing. With a huffing pout, the blizzard subsided, and the clouds cleared for the first time in months to reveal the early dawn with its piercing rays of golden yellow, pale pinks, and gallant oranges. The girl looked at the trainer, who returned the gaze for seconds before speaking.

"Small acts of courage can inspire the greatest strength. Never forget the influence of little hearts."

Years pass, my friends, and the trainer and his Pokémon had long ceased to exist. The girl, now a grown woman, never forgot the impact that they had on the little town of Dendemille, nor ever forgot that pure innocence and acts of bravery could inspire the greatest results. Maybe she's still around today, wandering the world in search of the inspiration that can only come from those who are youngest. That, dear friends, is the end of the tale. Bland, you might say. Clique maybe? Before you go further, bear in mind that sometimes, the most ingenious solutions come from those who don't have a voice that's strong enough to be heard. That's the tale of our Little Hearts, why don't we listen to yours?

Salut once again, my fellow writers and spinner of worlds. Come forth! Adventure lies in the air! There's a lost excitement in the popular Frozen Air tournament which, naturally, offers a winners prize. Nobody know what it is though! Indulge in exciting battles, fun games, and tense competitions! Bring your best, because there's a deadly threat hanging from the frozen icicles of Dendemille, and who knows which day might be your last?

Personality:
Nikki tends to be fairly quiet, keeping her voice to herself and rather not speak in front of those whom she does not know. Her brain works like cogs though, and she is extremely good at problem solving and quick thinking, which makes up for her lack of communication skills and coordination. In front of those whom she trusts, her sparse friends, Nikki ends up being more vocal and willing to express her complex thoughts. Due to the way she was raised, Nikki is afraid of many Pokémon, and cannot, or will not, make any attempt to communicate with any other Pokémon besides her own. That, also, is the way she figures out what Pokémon to place on her team- if she can talk to them, they're a keeper. Her values are weak as well, and Nikki has a hard time trying to decipher what is wrong and what's right in many moral situation, rather, she will argue with the participants in the issue to persuade them to explain to her why they think they're right. In her heart, she wishes to be more determined, although her positive outlook on life balances out her negatives.
Skills:
Problem Solving and her resourcefulness are perhaps her most notable features. Her guilty pleasure is writing, not to mention that she tends to be very sly and crafty in her wording, making her very good at persuasion.

Name: Jake Everett
Gender: Male
Hometown: Mauville city (Hoenn)
Age: 18
Height: 5ft 9
Weight: 11 stone/ 69 kg
Hair: A shade of brown that resembles that of a grizzly bears fur. Relatively short but often unkempt.
Eyes: Stormy grey as if thunderclouds were brewing within them.
Clothing: A simple maroon cap with a question mark icon on the brim is worn almost all the time by Jake and his favourite outfit choice would be his simple white shirt with horizontal grey stripes and a pair of blue denim jeans. He also usually dons a high collared Jacket that is also maroon like his hat but with white details.
Identifying Marks: A few freckles sprinkled around his face and a small chunk missing from his right eyebrow.
Musculature: Wiry, Jake has enough muscle to give his frame slightly more bulk than the average joe but only slightly.
Personality: Jake is passionate about battling and will go to any means to strengthen himself and his partners. He looks after his friends and enjoys a bit of friendly rivalry. One of the boy’s biggest problems is that he can be so headstrong that it lands him in trouble, often getting in over his head. A good guy really, Jake is the kind of guy you can always count on to have your back even if it means risking his own.
Skills: Due to his upbringing Jake has a wide knowledge of all things fossil, his dad often talked to him at great length about them. Jake is also a rather skilled cook and often capitalises upon this skill whenever possible. Other than this he has learnt basic first aid and survival skills and of course the all important battling skills.
Past: Pretty simple stuff here, Jake comes from the Hoenn region. His Dad works for Devon corp as a fossil expert and over the years it turned out that like father like son Jake was the adventurous type. He trained with Norman for a few years to get the gist of being a trainer and was gifted his first Pokémon, an Anorith, by his father on his eleventh birthday. Now that he had a partner to travel with it was time for Jake to see what the Hoenn region had to offer. After a series of adventures he eventually decided to visit somewhere new, the lovely Kalos region.
family: Flint Everett (Father), Susie Everett (Mother) and May Everett (Sister)
Love Relationships?: Well none yet because there aren't any other characters around that I know of XD
Pokémon:
Species: Armaldo
Nickname: Ronin.
Gender: Male.
Ability: Swift Swim.
Hidden power: Fire
Special features: Ronin's wings are a little larger than is the norm for his species and actually allow him to glide rather poorly.
Personality: Ronin is a cheerful soul, never giving into any form of opposition. Even when he was a tiny little Anorith he would stand unafraid against much larger opponents. He has a deep bond with Jake, the kind that can only form after years in each others presence and they both like to think of it as more of a brotherly love kind of connection than a trainer and Pokémon's relationship

Species: Smeargle
Nickname: Pallet
Gender: Female
Ability: Own tempo
Hidden ability: Dragon
Special features: Pallet's tail changes colour to correspond with the colour of the last move she used. So for example flamethrower would change the paint to a red colour.
Personality: A bit of an airhead honestly, always absentmindedly painting whatever happens to be nearby.

Species: Breloom
Nickname: Foxglove
Gender: Female
Ability: Technician
Hidden ability: poison
Special features: Nothing.
Personality: Foxglove is a lively lil thing, she gets excited over almost anything but specifically food. Often babied by Matilda.

Species: Drifblim
Nickname: Tilly
Gender: Female
Ability: Aftermath
Hidden ability: Electricity
Special features: Nothing.
Personality: Tilly is a bit of a trickster and constantly messes with everything and everyone around here.

Species: Kingdra
Nickname: Nargis
Gender: Male
Hidden ability: Grass
Special features: Battle scarred and fairly old.
Personality: Nargis is a stoic soul and is generally the quiet type. Unfazed by pretty much anything, intimidation, comedy and even physical attacks for the most part. Well until he faints that is.

Species: Mandibuzz
Nickname: Matlida
Gender: Female
Ability: Overcoat
Hidden ability: Bug
Special features: Rather large for a Mandibuzz, Matilda can carry Jake with ease.
Personality: Matilda is a motherly figure to the rest of Jake's team and is very protective of all of them. She can be both gentle and vicious depending on the situation.

Right I've left out Pokémon for now because I dont know how you want this to go down. Are we meant to be fresh trainers or can I have a well rounded and experienced team? How many Pokémon should I have?
@Nebula-Newt , thank you for your interest!

Regarding the Pokémon, you can be, quite literally, anything you'd like. An experienced trainer, fresh beginner, and have a strong many Pokémon as you'd like. The tournament is open to everyone from ranges of different experiences, so feel free to get creative with it.

Hmm, this seems very interesting. Like @Nebula-Newt, I will also be putting in the character's Pokémon a bit later since I am going to be eating lunch soon. So anyway, what is the tournament going to be on? (Is it battling, competing for fabulous appearances, et al.)

Name: Tori Cass
Gender: Female
Hometown: New Bark Town, Johto
Age: She is roughly 18 Years old.
Height: 4'11" / 1.49 m
Weight: 118.2 lbs / 53.61 kg
Hair: Her hair is a typical dark black like the night skies, as it is short and straight like a linear segment one would see in their average geometry homework.
Eyes: Her eyes are brown like the wood of a dark hibiscus tree.
Clothing: She has on a tan flatcap that has a black striped pattern; while she wears a green V-necked shirt, blue short-sleeved cargo pants, and brown leathery sandals.
Identifying Marks: She has a modest scar on her left arm from an incident that happened long ago.
Musculature: She has a skinny build, as she does not seem to have much muscle mass though.
Personality: Tori is often seen as being the mother of Pokémon younglings, as her compassionate nature and motherly traits enable her to reach out to younger Pokémon more easily than others. Her gentle nature can still land her in trouble sometimes, since she may occassionally spoil or even embarrass her Pokémon; while her detestation towards battling has also earned her the nickname of "Spineless Torchic" from others.
Skills: Tori is able to speak out to younger Pokémon more easily than others can, as she is adept at taking care of smaller Pokémon.
Past: Her past was rather complex, as all that is known from her is that she fled from Johto after Team Rocket and Team Tots teamed up in a relentless assault against the entire region. She fled over to the Kalos region after fearing that all the other known regions would soon be under attack, as she went with her Cyndaquil and stumbled upon a mysterious Squirtle after finding him collapsed in the Santalune Forest in Kalos. She patched up the Squirtle's injuries and attempted to help rehabilitate him from his haunted past as best as she could.
Family: She has a mother, but her location is currently unknown. Unfortunately, her father is deceased as a result from the merciless assault in Johto. Both of their identities are also unknown to everyone.
Love Relationships?: N/A at the moment.
Other: She also has a leather, shoulder strap bag that has the necessities of the needs of herself and her Pokémon. The bag also has a function of transforming its front side into a carrier sling to carry babyish or just small Pokémon in general.

Name: His name is Cylan.
Species: Cyndaquil
Gender: Male
Age: His age is unknown, though he does bear significant resemblance to a neonate.
Type: [type]Fire[/type]
Ability: Hypobustion (The Pokémon's Fire-type attacks are powered up when it is invigorated, but it will be unable to use Fire-type attacks when it is exhausted however. This ability is exclusive to Cylan.)
Hidden Power: [type]Dark[/type]
Special Features: He is smaller than the average Cyndaquil, and he also wears his own Wise Glasses that are specifically made for him that also help with his extreme nearsightedness since his vision is 20/750 without his glasses on.
Personality: Cylan tends to be reserved when it comes to social interactions, as he can be seen as the outcast when he is forced to be with a group of other Pokémon. His intelligence can sometimes make others jealous, since he is able to do advanced level of mathematics and physics with ease. However, his rodent traits can sometimes make him appear silly at times, since he still has a hard time when it comes to encountering his reflection from mirrors. He can be more than just a silent fire mouse if given some time and care.
History: Cylan was in his egg when his trainer rescued him from a stormy, rainy day, as his trainer took him to her house and saw him hatch when she was about to enter her typical slumber. She cared for him like her own blood, as he grew up with her year after year and developed a strong bond with her. When Cylan and his trainer encountered the unusual Squirtle when they came to Kalos, he wanted to evolve to help ease the Squirtle's misfortune. However, it seemed as if he could not evolve even though he was more than capable of doing it, as no one seemed to know the very reason to this day.
Other: He wears a fluffy, fireproof, sky blue scarf around his neck to help keep himself warm since he does get cold easily.

Name: His name is Leon.
Species: He is a Squirtle.
Gender: Male
Age: His age is unknown, though he does appear to look awfully young with his newborn features he has for his age.
Type: [type]Water[/type]
Ability: Shellular Recovery (While the Pokémon is out of combat or in a position of defending behind cover, the Pokémon will gradually regenerate 10% HP every turn if it does not take damage for at least a turn. Taking damage and/or having a status problem will halt the effects of this ability however. This ability is exclusive to Leon.)
Hidden Power: [type]Ice[/type]
Special Features: He wears a silver bracelet on his right hand, as his shell is also rather soft to the touch; even softer than a newborn's.
Personality: Leon can be seen as the social pariah since he has a rather hard time fitting in with other Pokémon due to the fact that he behaves like an adult, but yet almost always gets treated like a baby. He can be very stubborn at times, since he is almost never taken seriously by almost everyone. He detests others harassing him for his size, since he has had enough of others picking on him just for appearing small to them.
History: Unfortunately, Leon had it rather hard when it came to his past. He was kidnapped by Team Tots and used in Project: Regression, which resulted in his devolution back to a little baby Squirtle. He decided to rebel against Team Tots, as he murdered almost all of the entire scientists; some of which got away, but their leader soon met their demise though. He eventually escaped by going through the sewers and allegedly fighting off several Grimer that lived there, as he collapsed when he got out and was in the deepest part of the Santalune Forest. He was eventually rescued by his trainer when he was found an hour after, as she cared for him and took him to the Pokémon Center for further treatment and examination on his condition.
Other: He despises going to the Pokémon Center since not only is he almost always treated like a baby, but he abhors towards medicine and especially towards needles; his worst fear yet.

Oh my goodness! There are two more people joining this RP than I first anticipated! I'm so excited!
Anyways, please take your time as well.

The tournament is open to all levels of experience and all paths of life. The primary event happens to be the battling, however, there are separate sign-up events that participants can take partner in to gain points as well.

Points, I'll explain for a second, are how one wins the tournament. Every event gives points, Five for first, three for second, and one for third. For battles, a win pushes you up into a higher tier to compete for more points, and loosing pushes you down. Nobody is necessarily eliminated from battling, but those who are highest win more points for winning.

Each participant has a battle every day, but is also encouraged to sign up for one of two other events. For example, one day might have a race in the snow which requires great coordination and planning to navigate through the snow, and the other event might be a more straightforward Contest as shown in regions like Hoenn and Sinnoh. The next day might have a Scavenger hunt and a rock or mountain climbing event along with a battle later in the day. It'll change, and I'm open to suggestions on more games and such. Does that make sense?

The tournament will last for however long we wish for it to last, until we all agree that perhaps spurring the main story might be a smart move.

Time to get more excited! xD Here's another interested perso- err, fluff. And I agree; it's rare to see an in-depth rp, especially one with so much effort put into it! I'd like to have my form up soon, hopefully in an hour or so, but I do have a few questions:

I see that no one has input their pokemon in their forms yet. Is this something to be generally followed or...? And is our pokemon selection limited to native pokemon found around the area? (Seeing that the town doesn't appear to be a very popular destination (maybe the festival could change that?))
Also, I know you clarified that trainers of all experience groups are welcome, but is it mandatory to enter with more than one pokemon? (Assuming double battles are a thing)

Yup, that's about it. I'll wait for confirmation before beginning my character ^w^/

@MegaAbsol Thank you for your interest! We're thrilled to have you.

Haha, I see you noticed the incompletion. XD at this current time, you are not required to fill out the Pokémon list. I'd like for everyone to clarify who they're using, but schedules for get hectic. So I'm just letting you guys fill them out as you find time.

Regarding the popularity, your Pokémon are not limited to natives. I mean, if you come from Hoenn, perhaps think about not having a team swarming with Pokémon from Kanto. However, your Pokémon choices are pretty free here.

And I'm certain that only having one Pokémon would be fine! From a competitive standpoint it might be difficult, but having one Pokémon is fine.

Well, thank you for the welcome :3

Well, I prefer to put up a complete bio instead of a WIP I constantly revert to, so if I can put it up within... *glances* 30 minutes... I'd have achieved something xD Welp, I'll just put it up tomorrow.

But I'll try my hardest to do so today. Also, argh >w< I see you've chosen an Absol...too. ;-; I'm all for type diversity, but I think I'll stick with my initial choice. Do let me know if I should choose something else, though! Also, what level can we assume our pokemon to be? Since I'd be starting with a single pokemon, I presume there'd be a level difference. Also, are Held Items allowed? Also, this is the third 'also' 'o3o

Ahem. I'm just gonna get to typing.

Haha! Nikki is actually a character I pulled right out of my brain yesterday, so I'm still trying to form her team. Of course you can still have an Absol- besides, I was planning on switching him with another Pokémon anyways.

Levels can range- it's open to anyone. So, I'd say for starters, maybe the 30 range? I mean, from the Pokecharms rules it seems as if levels and movesets are nonexistent.

And yes, items are allowed. :)

Umm, before I put my Pokémon bios in, am I allowed to have custom abilities for my Pokémon or do they have to be official? (I'm asking since I would like to have my own to make them interesting in battles.)

Well, alright... they're in the character sheets here. Now I have my Pokémon character sheets up! (They're edited with my first post and down below in case if anyone cannot find them.)

Personally I'm not a particularly big fan but I dont want to spoil anyone's fun. Go ahead!

Also when are we planning on getting this show on the road?

Ah great :D
Normally I find that things begin to get a little crowded after four people....so yeah I would say were good to go! And of course people could still join in once the roleplay has began.

Well it's up to everyone... since I can be a bit quiet like a fire mouse here... I didn't want to go too big with the abilities since some of the ideas I had were a bit overpowered back at the drafting stage.

Friends, I like to celebrate the little things in life.

I'm ~45% done with the introductory post! I'm so excited to begin! It should be up by the end of tonight (tonight being around 10pm CST)

Hi...I'm aware that this roleplay is labeled as closed, yet here I am foolishly asking if you could squeeze in one more. I'm intrigued by high-potential RPs, is all, which have seemed either lacking or unavailable as of late.

Terribly sorry for the delay! >w< Circumstances...is all the excuse I can offer. First things first, without further ado, here's my character profile! :

Name: Eve Iridescence
Gender: Female
Hometown: Phenac city, Orre
Age: 18
Height: 5 feet 4 inches
Weight: 56 kg/ 112 pounds
Hair: Long brown tresses that seem to grow in natural steps. They frame her heart-shaped face very well, and she likes weaving fallen flowers into her hair for a while, as long as nobody sees her in them. Due to their length, her hair can be a little unruly, but flows like silk, hardly ever knotting. She keeps it open oftener than not, but on occasions she’ll tie them up in accordance to her mood.
Eyes: Stormy gray-green with curious purple flecks in them.
Clothing: Full sleeved shirts, or in the absence of the mentioned, she’ll wear a jacket to cover her arms up. She’s not particular about her clothes, as long as she feels sufficiently covered in them, and usually wears slim-fitting jeans and knee-high boots, though for the duration of the festival, she’s taken to thicker clothing. She now wears a long fur-laced coat over a closer fitting jacket, and thicker, looser jeans than normal. The boots change depending on the climate – hotter days call for her usual pair while colder and frostbitten days require some high furry boots.
Identifying Marks: A couple of burn marks on her upper arms, and a light scratch slanting downwards from her neck to her collarbone. Both are usually covered by her apparel.
Musculature: Eve is a rather slim young lady, with little muscle, and a lithe, sturdy frame. She is relatively fit from hard, happy work, and while her build is a little on the heavier side, she’s still light on her feet and manages to be graceful most of the time.
Personality:
Eve is a complex, contradicting person, taxing to all those around her. She has a fierce rebellious streak, with powerful ambition and the will to get there, wherever she needs to get. Impatient, she demands instant obedience - with that being strictly a one-way deal. Somewhat of a brat, her stubbornness is off the charts, and is disobedient to the core. These over-whelming traits are some of her most prominent. Headstrong and impulsive, though one might associate such characteristics with unthinking behavior, Eve possesses mean tactical and analytical skills. Intelligent, and often considered strange by others, she is very secretive and prefer to keeps to herself. She has great insight and her deduction skills are unlike any other. She is meticulous and tends to be a deep thinker that can see the “big picture”, and seldom needs - or asks for - advice.
Eve is not accustomed to false modesty - if she says something, she means it; as is wont of her clear, transparent nature. She recognizes the power of words, and wields them carefully, preferring to observe first and speak later in most situations. Although, she is someone who isn't in touch with reality and tends to be lost in another thought or daydream. Naive and forgetful, she has the potential to be a free-spirited, happy-go-lucky person with the right company. She closes up instantaneously to strangers, feeling awkward under the judging gazes of society, and generally avoids crowds like the plague.

She appears to be detached and uncaring, but when it comes down to it she is a very motivated and driven person. She fights for what she believes in with all her strength, to the point of protecting the ones that she cares for, even at the cost of her life. Though she is very laid back to the point of being lazy; her true strength lies in her ability to think up the best strategies for overcoming an obstacle. Eve has a tendency to place herself and others dear to her over others, which may be perceived as selfishness, as she barely stops to consider the consequence of her actions.
Eve has a sense of humor that might not be appreciated by everyone, witty and cynical. That is, when she can think of a retort. She has keen observation skills though, so it's more often than not that she ends up spewing something awkward. She can be a loud, hyperactive and unpredictable person, swayed easily by her strong, explosive emotions.
She is rather pliable, more confused about herself than others out there, and has mixed feelings about change, which she sees as a rather large subject. After all, nothing was consistent. She might often do odd, eccentric things and question them later. However, don't let her gullibility fool you.
Eve is mysterious, to the point that she suddenly zones out, mind lost within itself. Her vivid imagination loses her to golden frenzies of wind-stirred buttercups and glories of wild roses, golden domes of sunsets and heavy, dusky violet twilights. Her behavior borders on unpredictable, and not always rational. Despite all logic and intelligence, this ditzy girl is still prone to ad decisions due to her lack of touch with reality and thoughts constantly swarming in her head. Her subtle, luculent movements keep her behavior from being read easily, though this behavior is not gained sub consciously. She consciously keeps track and is aware of all that goes around her, to the point of observing minute details.
Her personality, as such, is as fluid as her whims. Very random, they appear as random splashes of color on an otherwise blank canvas of paper. She can be shy a moment, and a raging she-dragon the other. She rather enjoys asking questions; the suddenness and overall oddity of them amuses both the speaker and the receiver. She learns through that way too! She has a brisk mental pace, and vivid imaginations. So not to say that she's not aspirant - she too, like all other humans, has dreams and ideals. She'd love to be divinely beautiful or dazzlingly clever or angelically good. She does her current task with all might and main, especially profound reflection.
She ruminates upon seemingly insignificant features of the world, for all material upon this mortal earth have consequence, and life, however short, may or may not be insignificant. The person makes the life, and yet the fleeting life of a person itself mayhaps means something. And yet something may not be what it seems. Her thoughts flip at this tantivy rate, dancing a merry tap.
Her imagination takes form in paintings and drawings. She often writes, harnessing the power she so delicately wields, and she has excellent, smooth strokes. When she isn't challenging her eye-hand coordination, she likes to lie around and imagine: weave entire tales out of experience or memory. She enjoys placing herself in books or paintings and imagining out her life, though it is a secret pleasure of hers: she'll never let anyone know of this hobby! She carries around a small sketchbook and a complete drawing kit, which she utilizes often, at the expense of other activities she might have been doing. She is also prone to procrastinating in pursuit of more interesting activities, hence her reliability is questionable.
She could be likened to a painting, bright and vivid. Only, she folds in on herself around people. For shyness or other, she hides something very special inside, a secret world not easily obtained. But every once in a while, she finds someone worth unfolding for. The glancing blow in her exigent past has not fazed her one bit, and she remains as herself as ever. As pugnacious and loquacious as she was as a child, she still makes a wonderful, unique, colourful mixture of a person to meet.

Skills: Most fine arts like painting, drawing or writing. She’s good at observation and deducing, as well as coming up with unique answers to questions. She also occasionally dabbles in wood carving.
Past:
Mrs. Asra Iridescence lived just where the Phenac main road dipped down into a little hollow, fringed with alders and ladies’ eardrops and traversed by a brook that had its source away back in the woods; it was reputed to be an intricate, headlong brook in its earlier course through those woods, with dark secrets of pool and cascade; but by the time it reached Iridescence’s Hollow it was a quiet, well-conducted little stream, for not even a brook could run past Mrs. Asra Iridescence’s door without due regard for decency and decorum; it probably was conscious that Mrs. Asra was sitting at her window, keeping a sharp eye on everything that passed, from brooks and children up.
She was sitting there one afternoon in early June. The sun was coming in at the window warm and bright; the orchard on the slope below the house was in a bridal flush of pinky- white bloom, hummed over by a myriad of bees. She sat knitting, resplendent in her house, enjoying the crisp coolness of spring in the dry desert that was Phenac. Thanks to the bottomless oasis the city housed, the Iridescence’s were one of the few who had fertile soil and backyard gardens, for space was to be had aplenty. She was keeping a sharp eye on her daughter, Eve, who was gambolling happily, chasing after some friendly Masquerain on her hands and knees, crawling energetically at the age of 6 months.
Ethan Iridescence and the brightly blazing sapphire flamed Rapidash jogged comfortably over the eight miles to his destination. It was a pretty road, running along between snug farmsteads, with now and again a bit of balsamy fir wood to drive through or a hollow where wild plums hung out their filmy bloom. The air was sweet with the breath of many apple orchards and the meadows sloped away in the distance to horizon mists of pearl and purple.
He was off to an errand: to pick up something. A smile lilted across his face at the thought of the joy the surprise present would bring his darling daughter, Eve. Spring was the prettiest time of the year, and he passed the bejewelled stretch of four or five hundred yards long road, completely arched over with huge, wide-spreading apple-trees, planted years ago by an eccentric old farmer. Overhead was one long canopy of snowy fragrant bloom. Below the boughs the air was full of a purple twilight and far ahead a glimpse of painted sunset sky shone like a great rose window at the end of a cathedral aisle.
The fleeting, sweeping white blossoms reminded him of the daughter and wife he loved so, and he broke off a branch that swept the side of the buggy, for Ethan was a man who loved deeply and whole-heartedly. The petals lilted like the shy smile of a bride decked in white, with a lovely misty veil. The twilight twinkled like the coruscate luminescence of a chubby baby’s eyes, flushed with the happy rouge adorning her cheeks. All was well with the world.

Mrs. Gwen peeked out the window, a smile of satisfaction appearing when she noted how exactly on time Ethan was. She had the package ready - she glanced over at a paper-covered hexagonal package, large and bulky, moving slightly with muffled cries emerging from it. Eve would love it, just as all those around her loved her enthusiastic and open nature. She opened the door wide for the proud father as he harnessed the equine to a post, allowing him to stride in with a bright smile. No words were necessary; with gleeful, polite nods, the package exchanged hands and Ethan strode out. Gwen waved goodbye, standing at the doorway; a lone Flygon dropping down from the ceiling and hovering worriedly near her left shoulder.

"Where's my wonderful baby girl?" Ethan boomed, walking in, grinning from ear to ear. Asra smiled, getting off her chair and sweeping the ecstatic baby from the floor, holding her up to the loving father. He grabbed Eve's tiny fingers and nibbled on them gently, sending the child in hysterics of delight. It didn't take long for her to notice the fidgeting package though, and she clapped her father on his cheek to be put down. She shot off towards the package as soon as it was done so, missing the mildly worried glance her mother gave her beaming husband. Asra leaned down, steadying the impatient child, while Ethan strode over and ripped the paper from the package. The noises instantly quietened, before starting again, rising a couple of octaves and decibels. Eve was struck dumb in astonishment, and gaped with mouth open.
Asra clutched her baby tight as Ethan opened the cage, and out waddled a tiny Trapinch. One look at the massive, outsized, powerful jaws the stocky Ant wielded, and Asra was struck with fear, making up her mind instantly. "No, Ethan. Don't let that thing near her." She hissed. Ethan looked confused, tilting his head at his wife. "What? Look, it's a baby." He rolled the Trapinch over, tickling it's belly with a finger. The Ground type gurgled with pleasure, all fear forgotten, and nipped at Ethan's fingers.

He reached over and pulled Eve gently from Asra's protective hold, and laid her at his feet, about a foot from the Trapinch. Both baby and pokemon regarded each other curiously, silently. Eve was sucking on her thumb, while the Trapinch shuffled uneasily, inching closer to sniff at this new entity that smelt of warmth and milk. Suddenly, unabashedly, Eve reached over and patted the Trapinch, wet thumb and all. The young pokemon delightedly pushed against her chubby hand, and a bond was formed.
Ethan smiled triumphantly over at a somewhat sheepish Asra, who had lost none of the snap in her worry, and got up to tend to his ride. Asra remained a while longer, separating the two when her husband walked back in. In the half-hour or so that had passed, the two infants had formed an unbreakable, ethereal bond that transcended the boundaries of ordinary friendship. In that fateful half-hour, the two had learned to love each other deeply and fiercely, and so it would remain till the end of time.

But so it would not be. Five years later, sorrow settled upon her life; no life is ever quite the same again when once that cold, sanctifying touch has been laid upon it. A terrible drought had settled upon Phenac a year ago, and while the citizens had prayed for it to end, grasped onto the impossible hope of rain, the drought had persisted. It was blazingly hot, but women were forced to travel miles for water. The once freely flowing fountain now ran dry, and already people had begun migration towards more hospitable climates, scared by the deaths that befell houses each day.

Eve had been lucky. Her family had taken the measure declared that women and children got water first, unlike some more desperate neighbourhoods, and while she ran with eternal thirst, she was healthy and happy. She understood the gnawing, dry pain in her, but did not understand the reason for it. Asra, however, had a pressing concern upon her. Everyday Ethan drained drier, grew more irritable. Lack of water made one desperate. However, though he could no longer convey it, his love for his wife and child never ebbed. Where his love was once flowery and cheerful, now his love was staid, steadfast, long-suffering. His smile was bottomless; he always had a smile ready for Eve when she glanced his way. Trapinch, however, was thriving. Though preferring to keep indoors due to the intense heat outside, he loved burrowing in the dry, flaky sand.
However, Asra's worry reached peak point one day when Ethan failed to smile or greet. He walked around slumped, slouched, like a walking dead. Eve was frightened by this new entity; this was not her father! Her father did not look at people hungrily. Her father did not have this feral look in his eyes. And worst of all, she could no longer safely predict her father. She did not think that if she ran up to him, he would hoist her in the air and whirl her around. He would no longer go over and comfort her quietly at a look or whim. She spent all day hiding in her mother's skirts.

When the unforgiving heat died down in the evening, Asra hurriedly ran out to collect her daily ration of water. But today was a little different. Today, Eve was taken along, leaving Ethan alone in the house, brooding and unreacting. The young child, while unhappy at being separated from her constant companion, tagged along excitedly. The outside world!
All she was met with on the dry, dusty road was bales of hay rolling in the dry air, stinging particles that hurt her eyes, nose, face...and silent, dark, long lines of wasted away people. She buried her face in her mother's skirt, welcoming the darkness.

She remembered not too well what happened over the next few days. She merely knew that she never saw home again. Or the inside of it, or home, as such, as she knew it. Her mother shrieked as she returned, shielding Eve from the gruesome sight that was once her house. A crowd had already gathered, sparing the child from the atrocities that directly faced her. Poor young life. She knew not that requirement made animals of people. The father she knew once was no more. And with him, torn limb from limb, the friend she had once known, poor Trapinch too had not known the fate that awaited in the hands of the man he trusted. Now the price he paid was his blood at Ethan's lips.

That was when Asra moved to Dendemille with her young child, the only belongings they possessed on her back. Dehydration, even in this land of plenty, had become her greatest fear, though Eve was mercifully mentally unaffected. Living under the shield of a wing, Eve grew to the age of 18, during which time she discovered the plentiful riches and delights Kanto had to offer.
Eve had made good use of every waking moment of those years. Already she was acquainted with every tree and shrub about the place. She had reveled in morning mists and hazy summers, explored wintery clearings twinkling with clear stalactites, copses overrun with delicate green carpets of moss, corners thick with fern, and branching byways of maple and mountain ash. She had made friends with the spring down in the hollow— that wonderful deep, clear icy-cold spring; it was set about with smooth red sandstones and rimmed in by great palm-like clumps of water fern; and beyond it was a log bridge over the brook. That bridge led Eve’s dancing feet up over a wooded hill beyond, where perpetual twilight reigned under the straight, thick-growing firs and spruces; the only flowers there were myriads of delicate ‘June bells,’ those shyest and sweetest of woodland blooms, and a few pale, aerial starflowers, like the spirits of last year’s blossoms. Gossamers glimmered like threads of silver among the trees and the fir boughs and tassels seemed to utter friendly speech.

And she thrived. Already long ago had she marked the face of the friend she refused to forget, forging it out of pure ink and purer blood, and she reveled in showing all her delights to him. Everyday she grew more radiant, each day she ran up a slope like a Deerling, and solemnly stared down at her house, a homely cottage set in an indent in the ground. Her bedroom was set in the east, where she liked to see the sun rise everyday. Tomorrow she would start her journey. Yes, she was happy. And she vowed to be happy in the years ahead, each year a rosy promise to be woven into an immortal chaplet.

In more recent years:

The mountain, shrouded in fog and mystery called to the girl like a Mothim to a flame. Lingering around the base of the leviathan was nothing new to Eve, but only once, at the age of 13, did the girl dare to actually scale the mountain in hopes of conquering both the heights as well as her dreams. This, of course, was done without permission, and the only time Eve had ever done so, but it was well she chose to do as she did, for she met a fallen angel at the heights of the world. Clambering unceremoniously over a ledge, the girl was unaware she was being watched by a pair of blood-red rubies. Crimson eyes dazzling in the reflected snow, a wraith stepped forward, no more than a shadow against the snow. And yet the pelt of this creature was white, whiter than white. Cruelly white as the fangs from which dripped one’s lifeblood. But this creature was unstained, unmarred. Pure, and yet so tainted. An Absol emerged from a flurry of snowflakes, steadier in step than the mountain itself. It made no sound as it approached the teenager with utmost caution. And Eve could only watch. She felt as though she were being pulled in a a void, an unforgiving abyss. She teetered on the brink of indecision; life or death. The scythe of the carnivore glinted in the rising sun, but Eve felt no fear, only what she could call awe. Her eyes never left the being, perfect in its harmony of black and white - to note how the Absol's spotless white fur practically glowed in the bright sun, the dark features accentuated higher and higher, the contrast deepening, until the white fur put white to shame and the dark face glared defiantly at her, darker than what she would have deemed anything. Though it felt like betrayal, Eve's heart went out to her foe with nothing but admiration. And even as she was loathe to tear her eyes away, her own green eyes connected with the Absol’s red, a slight brush of its fur brought her out of her trance. She looked down wonderingly at her hand; when had it approached so close? And yet, when she looked up again, in both dread and hope, the Absol had disappeared.

For a moment, her being emptied out into hollowness, before disappointment flooded in. She stood there, empty and afraid, taking no more than a few minutes to decided what needed to be done.

Who are you?

He stared at the girl, the indignation evident in his crimson eyes. He knew she shared the same kind of curiosity he harbored towards her, the sentiment that the opposing was an interesting organism was mutual. He had yet to acknowledge the relationship between them.

Why do you come here every day?

He could grudgingly admit that she hadn't forced him into anything yet. She left him here, night after night, in his natural habitat, only to visit him repeatedly, every day. Each time, she would sit, and talk. She would talk quietly, but incessantly.

Why do you talk to me, when I can't answer back?

She would notice when he was paying attention, and when he wasn't. If he was bored and looking aside, or simply wishing to shut out the noise, her voice would cease. But it would start again, when he looked at her, even if out of the corner of his eye. Initially she would just sit, and talk to him. Gradually she began extending her hand.

Why do you always bring delicious things when you come here?

He'd admit, the first day she'd brought some food, he'd left alone; other pokemon had come and eat it. She didn't get angry, only cleaned it, and brought more food the other day. This continued for the first few days, until, driven by curiosity, he'd leaned over and sniffed it, poking it with a claw.

I was just hungry, but they threw rocks at me. And, a big human took away my brother.
So I'm afraid of humans.
But...
You're a bit different.

Eventually condescending to eat some of what she had brought, he realized it matched his taste very well. Slightly bitter, salty and crunchy, it was just what he liked. She'd sat and smiled at him as he ate, and eventually he gave up cautiously watching her from the corner of his eye as he ate. She didn't move anyway.

You brought that warm-looking box last time, didn't you?

The season were gradually changing, and Eve had fretted for many a night how her Absol was doing, alone out at night. He may have survived for so long alone, but he was young, and the cold might bite him. He seemed distrustful of her at first, but she knew she was making progress.

There are so many things I'm curious about.

He had grown possessive of his box, guarding it fiercely from other pokemon.
He'd taken to rely on her for snacks, and other tasty tidbits.
He awaited her arrival, for her to greet him with a smile.

...

She was smiling at him, again, with that annoyingly cheery smile. Grinning like an idiot. He preferred when she sat quietly alongside him, dreaming their own dreams, sides pressed, sharing warmth. Her hand was extended, spread open, fingers slightly curved. With her, he'd probably be dead within the week.
And then, a miracle. A step closer.

May I come closer?

Family: Asra Iridescence (Mother), Ethan Iridescence (Father; deceased)
Love Relationships: None, she’s too shy around other people, girls and boys alike.

Species: Absol
Nickname: Abyss
Gender: Male
Ability: Super Luck

Held Item (optional to be considered): Razor Fang
Hidden Power: Poison
Special Features: Still a young pokemon, though despite his age, he is a rather large specimen. His shoulder reaches a little beyond Eve’s free-hanging hand, although his size doesn’t affect his natural speed and agility.

History: A resident pokemon in the mountains surrounding Dendemille, Absol met Eve almost entirely by chance. The human girl has taken to exploring her surroundings within weeks of her transfer, and had chanced upon the wraith-like Pokemon, staring down at her with piercing crimson eyes. Abyss had allowed her barely a tantalizing brush of his fur before prancing away. From there, it was a slow and arduous process of getting the Absol to open up to Eve. (More details in Eve’s history)

Personality: Mysterious and often quiet, he's almost lost in thought much more than he's in the moment. He is a great carrier of empathy, causing him to wander toward the pull of his ability to sense disaster in order to try and prevent it. If he fails in this task, he often feels a crushing sense of despair and blames himself rather than circumstances outside of his control. Once his reserved outer shell is broken, a fun-loving and caring Pokémon that will give his life for others is exposed. This, combined with his hardheadedness when he decides to do something, creates quite the combination.

Edit to reply to the above question I literally just read *falls apart in a pile of fluff*
The Cyndaquil's ability seems fine (considering the personality) although the Squirtle's ability seems like it could pair well with Protect or Bounce or any move that allows immunity for a turn or two. At the same time, having two pokemon with special abilities can be a bit much, although I see you've put weaknesses in exchange (Squirtle's soft shell (?)(also, alliteration)). Overall, it's not crossing any line, per se, so I say, fair exchange.

Hi...I'm aware that this roleplay is labeled as closed, yet here I am foolishly asking if you could squeeze in one more. I'm intrigued by high-potential RPs, is all, which have seemed either lacking or unavailable as of late.
Of course you can squeeze in, @Quake ! I can't see how one more character could hurt us- besides, I was actually going to extend out the point that having an odd number of people would potentially aid us in the future when thinking about teams and traveling, so I say that you'll be the last person to join. Thank you for your interest! ^^

@MegaAbsol , thank you for your dedication to your character! She looks fantastic! :)

Okay- So @Quake, I'm assuming that, if you are still interested, you are working on your character. If so, take your time! I'm excited. If not, I appreciate your consideration.

@Charlespark , I'm aware that this may not be of interest? Im terribly sorry if that's the way it worked out. If you are still interested, the thread is up and feel free to post whenever.

Finally, @MegaAbsol , I assume that time has managed to slip away from you. Not a problem! Feel free to post whenever you find the time.

@Nebula-Newt , I do believe I shall post again to, perhaps, spark more inspiration. However, I will ask for the time being that we keep advancements in story to a minimum- stalling I suppose. I'm terribly sorry for your wait- thank you!

I have been working on my form, yes. I'm just slow, is all! Y'all feel free to go on ahead.

Although honestly, I wouldn't even mind if a post only showed up once a week, not if they're at the quality I have currently seen.

I don't think you should worry, Newt. In another RP I'm in called the Grand Kalos Festival, replies have been posted 2-3 weeks apart since it began and still hasn't died after over a whole year.

Although...that's just one example. I'm just here to tell y'all that I'm almost done with my character sheet, and I might be able to get a post up by tommorrow if it's accepted.

So terribly sorry! I've been having domestic emergencies, what with- well, never mind. I'm back! I wasn't actually sure how to respond despite a fair amount of stalking about the site in 5 minute intervals. I'll definitely try to get a post up today @Littleblue
Thank you for your patience, all!

One word, @MegaAbsol , that post was lovely. The length and dedication you put into it is lovely, and the many descriptions you used to describe Eve and Abyss really shine with the way you write! I throughly enjoyed reading such a fantastic post.

Honestly, this took way longer than it should have, but here ya go.

Name: "Deo" (Aran E. Ral)
Gender: Male
Hometown: Rustboro City (Hoenn)
Age: 18
Height: 5'5"/1.651 m
Weight: 140 lbs / 64 kg
Hair: Dark golden orange. Fluffy, a little shaggy, and not quite straight, it's long enough on the sides to cover his ears and in the front to nearly mask his eyes, which is why he has to brush it to the side every once and awhile.
Eyes: Olive Green (he hates olives with a passion)
Clothing: His trademark attire includes high-quality, black leather gloves, a pair of small, ellipse-shaped glasses with thin silver rims to aide his myopia, and an arguably oversized dark green coat with a hood. Simply-designed and reaching down to Aran's knees, it's void of any zips or buttons to hold its two open ends together, and it also lacks pockets. Yet, it seemed to be well-made from how it's held up over time, although the man was no expert of clothing fabrics. As for other clothes, he prefers baggy pants, typically cargos or sweats, as well as hiking shoes/boots that can last longer than a few months. Under his coat he usually wears a long sleeve athletic shirt rolled up to his elbows, made of an anti-odor, silk-like material for bearing his often-sweating body.
Identifying Marks: Nothing too noteworthy.
Musculature: Aran stands at just 5'5", yet he's anything but boyish in appearance. He doesn't jump out as being particularly beefy, and actually appears fairly lean from a side-view, as his body fat is low. From the front, however, his head and neck are notably thick utop broad, sloped shoulders and a wide torso. Additionally, his legs are in-fact quite muscle-bound from his years of running around, so much so that searching for men's pants to match his waist AND his thighs proves challenging.

An early onlooker might perceive Aran as a discreet, antisocial, and undemonstrative man in public. He strides at a consistent quickness with careless posture, gloved hands either hardly moving at his sides or finger-locked in front of his chest. Eyes, while sharp, remain fixed ahead, ironically heedless of surroundings of no concern. However small the matter, as long as he has something to do, Aran's busyness is almost violently apparent, as if he has something to prove. Few ever dare distract him in this state, but even with all his tasks complete he can be difficult to approach. He'll wander aimlessly for something to do, eyes zipping every which way yet somehow dodging other faces. He unconsciously deems merely glancing at a stranger an invasion of privacy.

Small talk is Aran's greatest social enemy whenever he does find himself in a conversation. Regarding greetings, weather, traffic, food, everyday experiences, complaints, basic factual questions, and other trivial gossip, he can only respond with nods, shakes, grunts, and mumbled general statements. This, paired with his habit of avoiding eye contact even during discussion, depicts him as quite rude and inattentive by some, even if he's interested. He speaks carefully, but he isn't crafty enough in his language for clever remarks.

Perhaps these traits don't render him SO socially inept compared to some, but he wouldn't mind if they did, for Aran fancies the preposterous proposition that this isolation somehow empowers his sociological imagination, his ability to analyze norms and behaviors in culture with more clarity than others. This idea serves as fuel for him to rip away from societal conformity in any way he can, at times persuading himself to completely flip the switch from his usual demeanor. From a pouty "I like that tall one, ya know..." towards the guy next to him at the urinals, to a dramatic "You have beautiful eyes" to the pissed man sizing him up for a fight, to standing opposite everyone everyone else in the front of a crowded elevator, scanning over their uneasy faces wearing a polite but silly (and perhaps creepy) grin, these experiments provide Aran with a strange, delusional sense of power, a sheep of higher self-awareness unbound to the herd. Yet he's genuinely curious. A self-proclaimed psychologist and sociologist, he yearns through these experiments to learn more of others and himself.

And it's just as well. Although considered normal among young adults, identity crisis is a constant struggle of his, often demonstrated whenever he's alone from everyone save his Pokémon, where his behaviors become increasingly bizarre. Some days he'd stare into the mirror for hours, contemplating himself before acting out various characters and emotions, spitting out phrases repeatedly and blurting out all sorts of noises as if a toddler hearing them for the first time. Other days he'd pace back and forth with thematic or rock music in his ears, his vivid imagination running through multiple hypothetical scenarios in attempt to discover ways to destroy stereotypes. At the very least, this exploration of various tropes could have decreased Aran's level of bias, but there is one act of bigotry he cannot escape, one that has boiled in his blood for a very long time. He cannot identify it, but it has given rise to a sense of fear and urgency, that something is WRONG with the world somehow. A single absurd belief that, as one individual puts it, "vindicates you from your crippling helplessness."

Skills: His discernible talents are few and far between, the most notable being his status as a pokemon trainer, the name on his trainer card being "Deo". Strangely, his team acts without any orders from him. People wonder how this would qualify Deo as a trainer at all, and he secretly agrees. He's a slow thinker, can't cook for his life, and can barely manage technology. He is, however, a decent tennis player.

Family:
Father--Shale Ral, a homecare nurse working for the Rustboro Pokemon Center.
Mother--Cia Ral, works for a branch of the Devon Corporation specializing in archeology as opposed to paleontology. (Hey Newt perhaps we can do something with this)

Growing up in the Hoenn city of Rustboro under two working middle-class parents,Deo had a favorable childhood from a financial standpoint. He attended the Rustboro Trainer School since preschool, where he shined academically. He absorbed the lectures like a sponge and always asked bright, insightful questions. Unfortunately, as he aged, his behavior grew increasingly erratic. He began disobeying the teachers, refusing to work even with clear knowledge of the material. He would ditch classes and journey into the wilderness of Route 116, deliberately aggravating the feral pokemon and getting himself hurt, only to repeat his idiotic actions. At first his parents connected his ill-behavior to being spoiled, but Aran rarely asked for much and neglected the few gifts he did receive on special occasions. He began to injure regularly, constantly falling and bumping into things. If intentional, he sure tried very hard to just appear clumsy. Shale worried that his son was demonstrating signs of major depression (at age seven?!), but even that didn't explain some actions. In one instance, Aran stole money from his mother's wallet just to rip it apart before eating the pieces. In another, his parents awoke in the middle of the night to the light of the hallway beyond the door that had opened, Aran seen wearing a strange paper mask painted black, a butter knife in his hand.

One day, on her way to Meteor Falls to search for potential old ruins, Cia spotted a male alolan sandshrew on Route 115, severely injured. Questions aside as to what such a pokémon was doing near the falls, where even normal sandshrew don't live, let alone Hoenn, Cia brought him to her husband, who concluded that the shrew wouldn't be able to return to the wild for quite some time even if they were able to find someone to send him back to Alola. Thus, he was taken in, and Aran mysteriously ceased his ill deeds, connecting with the creature. Well, on his end, anyway. The Sandshrew, nicknamed Sorex, was not fond of the boy's roughhousing and often curled up to avoid it, but then he'd just be rolled around like a ball. Thankfully, even though they continued to experience obstacles starting out, the pair stuck together over the years.
(I'll run down the more recent history in the RP itself)
