Open Life in Gensokyo (A Touhou RP)

Welcome to Gensokyo, a land where all species live and work together, sometimes peacefully, sometimes not. And by all species, we don't just mean humans and animals. No, we have humans living alongside youkai, witches, vampires, zombies, ghosts, and even gods and goddesses. There's magic, mischief, and mayhem galore, in Gensokyo!

(Character sheet time!)

Occupation:

Abilities (You can have up to two):

Name: Shizuki Ikari

Species: Witch

Occupation: Magic shop owner

Abilities: Using magic, and summoning familiars to aid her in battle.

-----------------------

Gensokyo had been peaceful for quite some time, thanks to Reimu and Marisa taking care of whichever misbehaving creature was stirring up trouble recently, which should have meant that business was booming in Shizuki's magic shop, or so the witch had hoped. But today, like the day before, and the one before that had been all too quiet. Barely a grimoire had left Shizuki's shop, let alone any of her magic items.

"I do hope I'll get a customer soon," the witch said aloud, rearranging her grimoires for the hundredth time.

Name: Aya

Species: Neko

Occupation: a little too dumb to have one

Abilities (You can have up to two): Levitation but she has no idea how to use it resulting in random items floating around her

"Aya slow" Ama said grabbing the cat girl as they walked into the magic shop oh how he wished he knew this place but he was new but he needed magic well magic Aya wouldn't get hurt by

Shizuki was just dusting her grimoire shelf for the hundredth time, when she heard something, or someone, so she hoped, crashing through the door of her quaint little shop. As much as she disapprived of their less than civil entrance, she hoped that maybe, they were a paying customer...

Facing them with a polite smile, she gently asked, "Did you, perhaps, need something from me?"

"Y-yes a- Aya sit!" Ama said Aya listened and sat down and started licking herself "Sorry about her anyway sorry I'm a bit new I was wondering what type of magic items you have here?" Ama asked not seeing Aya sneak away

"It depends what kind of magic you're looking for," Shizuki simply said, "I have grimoires for writing spells in, hakkeros for making lasers in danmaku fights, love potions, luck candles... What did you need?"

The Snom Prince

"mmmh Luck candles and Grimoires would be good" Ama said nodding his head not realising half of the items in the room had started floating with Aya chewing at her tail

"I can throw in a bell, if you'd like, for casting potent happiness spells," the witch continued, turning around to go back behind her desk for the items... Only to realise that they were floating.

"Is that your power at work?" Shizuki questioned, selecting a grounded grimoire from the shelf.

"Oh Aya!" Ama sighed rushing over to her and grabbing her up scratching her ears making everything drop "Sorry about that Aya doesn't know how to use her Levitation" Ama sighed deciding to put her lead back on would be a better idea than letting her run around

"A young one, I take it?" Shizuki sighed, "What is she... A youkai, perhaps? Young youkai always seem to have trouble with their powers. I'd appreciate it of she didn't practice them in my shop, however..."

Shizuki selected some of her orange candles, inscribing them with small runes, before bundling them up. "I took these ones to the Hakurei shrine and had them blessed this morning, so they'll be extra potent when you're doing luck spells!"

"Thanks and sorry again she isn't a Yokai I...don't really know how old she is and she has no control over them as far as I can tell" Amaz sighed putting Aya's lead on Aya looked up at Shizuki "What's a Yokai?" she asked in a squeaky voice

"I'm surprised that you don't know," Shizuki replied, "Gensokyo is crawling with them! Ones born from animals, or objects, like the tsukumogami... Hey, have you visited the Myouren Temple? There's a youkai there who is a disciple of Bishamonten!"

"I don't think it be a good idea to put Aya near a temple I already have a hard enough time reinforcing everything in my own home" Ama sighed "oooh Yokai like living objects?" Aya asked "Y-yes Aya sort of" Ama chuckled

"I suppose, aside from the Myouren temple, they wouldn't be welcome, at any sort of shrine, or temple, anywhere in Gensokyo," Shizuki added, "A lot of the shrine maidens around here specialise in youkai extermination, as well as divinations and blessings. There are many troublesome youkai around here, after all. Can't say I want to kill them, though..."

"You can't judge a group by a few bad apples" Ama smiled Aya came up to Shizuki "What are you?" Aya asked in her squeaky voice and standing up from her normal crouching position

Aya looked very confused then smiled "You like Mizzu then save world?" Aya asked excitedly "Not exactly sweetie" Ama chuckled nervously "she's referring to a story I tell her to calm her" Ama said giving Aya a book Aya sat down and started reading "alright sorry anyway how much were the things I need?" Ama asked

"About nine-hundred yen, dearie," Shizuki answered, "I know, it might seem a little pricey, but this grimoire is hand pressed and bound, and these candles are hand made, and totally organic!"

"I understand not near what I have to pay for Aya" Ama said rooting through his bag also making him realise he need to get rid of a few things "can you cast lightning like Mizzu?" Aya asked Shizuki looking up from her book

"Hm? No, you'd want to talk to Iku about that," Shizuki chuckled, "I'm just a simple witch. All I can do, besides magic, is summon familiars."

As she handed over the requested items, Shizuki suddenly got an idea. "Hwy, how about we have a small danmaku battle, if you want to test your abilities?"

"I-I don't think that be wise for any of us" Ama said but Aya looked interested "What's a Danmaku battle? it like Master Mao?" Aya asked "Probably not sweetie Mao lives very far from here" Ama chuckled "But he travels through stone so he can come!" Aya objected

"A battle style, in which we fight with non-lethal bullets and lasers," Shizuki explained, "It's how everything is settled around here. Everything from minor disputes, to matters of life and death."

"Oooh like when Mao and Mizzu fight can we AmAm can we?!" Aya asked hugging Ama "No sweetie you- just no sweetie you can send a letter to Aghi about it later and she'll get you a book" Ama smiled nervously knowing Aya finding something close to the stories he told her was not the best thing or what she needed

"Really no I have to put my foot down Aya doesn't know how to use any of her power and I won't put her in a situation that will make her think more than she already does that danger doesn't exist!" Ama said strongly Aya looked very disappointed

Name: Kanji Kotusuke
Species: Demon (complete with two small horns on his head, and a barbed tail)
Occupation: Butler (though currently seeking a master), Bodyguard
Abilities:
- Teleportation: Kanji can conjure up daggers (his weapon of choice) by teleporting them from his hidden stash, and teleport them back when he no longer needs them. He can also transport himself with teleporting, but only to where his daggers are (much like the flying raijin jutsu from Naruto).
- Slow Healing Factor: Can be sped up with meditation and focus, but doing so leaves him wide open and vulnerable

Kanji landed on the ground and slid back on his feet, out of breath as the giant serpent he was battling lashed out again, it's massive black jaws trying to swallow him whole. Diving to the side, the demon managed to save himself from being the creature's next meal and warped six daggers into his hands, flinging them into the monster's hide. Letting out a loud hiss of pain, the serpent's gleaming red eyes scanned the general direction for it's "prey's" location. Having warped onto it's back and staying still, Kanji carefully drew out his dagger from the serpent's flesh and tossed it toward his foe's head. Teleporting to the dagger he threw, he rammed the blade into the snake's eye, delivering the finishing blow while it was blinded.

"Sheesh. You really caught me on a bad day, scale face." the demon chuckled as he warped his daggers away from the site. Walking away, he heard his stomach growl loudly, and let out a sigh. "I need something to eat..." he muttered. He made his way into Gensokyo and started looking for a place to eat. "...Well, I'm totally lost." he muttered as he passed a girl dressed in a maid uniform with gray hair. He then noticed Shizuki's magic shop. Entering, he looked around and gave an impressed whistle. "Quite the stock you got here." he said, looking over the products. "D'you know where I could find the inn?"

Shizuki grumbled a little under her breath, disappointed at not getting to test out her new spell card. Nobody ever had danmaku fights just for fun anymore, and she was quite bored, with business being terrible in her magic shop, and no troubles from the youkai or Lunarians to investigate. Reimu'd probably beat her to it, if she even dared try.

The witch's attention was suddenly drawn to a demon, who'd welcomed himself into the shop. "You'll find an inn a little ways away from here," she answered, "Near where that were hakutaku lives... Keine Kamishirasawa, I believe?"

"Thanks..." Kanji said, before toppling over and landing flat on his face. His stomach gurgled once more after a few seconds, indicating he hadn't eaten for days. "Uh...I hate to be a bother, but do any of you have food to spare as well?" he added, not moving from where he was laying.

Aya snatched a Peach from Ama and gave it to Kanji "Peachy nice!" She smiled wagging her tail at the new person Ama just kept his eyes on Kanji hoping nothing dangerous would come out of this

"Thank...you..." Kanji moaned weakly as he took the peach and practically swallowed it whole, finishing it in about three or four bites. Licking the last of the sweet juices from his lips and fangs, he rolled back onto his hands and pushed up, landing on his feet. "Ah, that really hit the spot! I'll never forget this generous act." he said, smiling.

"Yay new friend then? my loves friend!" Aya said bouncing as her speech got odder Ama just smiled and petted her giving a smile to Kanji as he pulled Aya to him

Shizuki cleared her throat. "Well, I suppose that settles everything," she began, "Now, Mr Demon, was there any other reason why you came to my shop? When there ate several other magic shops within the village?"

"Well, I AM also looking for a job. There any openings here?" Kanji asked, looking to Shizuki. "If you need a resume, I've got one." he added, taking a roll of paper from his suit and unraveling it.

The witch held her hand up. "I don't need to see your resume," she began, "Because then I'd have to do something boring, like interview you, and send one of my familiars over to you in a few days' time to tell you you've got the job..."

Shizuki reached into her pocket, pulling out her binding stone. "How about I test your understanding of magic with a danmaku battle, instead? If you beat me, the job is yours!"

Ama smiled shyly and left the shop quietly with Aya in tow deciding to leave the 2 to their duel meanwhile Aya kept looking back interested but unable to go see them maybe she could see them again later...

"I must say this is a rather peculiar arrangement, but who am I to judge?" Kanji said with a chuckle. "Very well, I accept. Feel free to make preparations, I'll be waiting outside for you. Don't want to ruin the shop, after all." He turned to leave the shop and wait outside, but paused. "Then again, You're probably already set for this given you proposed it. Are you?"

"Of course I am!" Shizuki answered with an excited clap, "I've been dying for a danmaku battle, and the chance to try my new spell cards out. They're all themed around war, you know!"

The witch grabbed her binding stones and hurried outside, spoiling for a fight. "Well, let's go!"

Kanji followed her out. With a flourish that showed his classy side, and a flick of his wrists, six daggers slid out from his sleeves, the blades resting between his knuckles. "As you wish, milady." he crowed with a glint in his eyes. He then tossed the daggers at her, the blades slicing through the air as they reached for their target.

"I think I'm going to skip the non-spells, and just go for my spell cards," Shizuki announced, effortlessly dodging the stream of knives.

She pulled out the first of her new cards, reciting the spell in a hurry.

"War sign... Bloody fields!"

As Shizuki had predicted, and hoped for, streams of steadily growing, poppy shaped light orbs swirled around her, and then headed towards her opponent.

Kanji waited for the daggers to pass her, then vanished as the orbs of light approached. Now behind Shizuki, he grabbed the dagger he teleported himself to and dashed up to her, holding the blade to her throat. "You'll have to try harder than that, my dear." he chuckled, lightly brushing her cheek with the cold metal blade and drawing three more daggers from his free hand.

Shizuki whirled around, fingers brushing the edges of her binding stone. "Don't get so cocky," she said with a silvery voice, "That was only my first spell, you know. That was the easy part!"

The witch closed her hands as the stone began to glow, and soon, several, horse like energy bursts appeared before her.

"Charging..."

The cavalry were surrounded with blinding light...

"Light Brigade!"

And then they charged at the opponent, whinnying.
