Grimoires of Baklava

Ramen eyes probably doubled in size with excitement when he saw the book Kazuki had landed on Kiento's lap. Kiento opened the book, and flicked to a chapter marked rather ornately "initiate launch sequence", and began flicking various important looking switches. The dashboard of the cockpit began gradually to light up, the dim room beginning to glow with light. Ramen was startled, and jumped and banged his head on the roof as the speaker blared a string of complicated gibberish that even the Ramen found hard to decipher. Onigiri shoved past Ramen and strapped himself into the passenger seat. Ramen glared at Onigiri for stealing the more comfortable seat from his grasp, and clambered down the ladder to another room, and sat down. He tied his red headband tight, and buckled himself into his seat. Sunlight crept through the widening gap in the tower, and through the small window, Ramen could see the vibrant green fields that coloured the school gates. Outside, the ladder to the main entrance toppled over, and a flustered Tat scrambled into the rumbling space craft. Kiento shouted an all clear, and the rumbling climaxed before the ship rattled upwards in a cloud of fire and smoke. The school, and indeed Baklava, began to shrink ever more rapidly, and twinkling stars started to glimmer into view. The space ship had calmed down, and it now moved at a smoother, faster pace.
"Erd's the nearest planet," Ramen shouted up to Kiento "Shall we stop for more stuff there?"

OOC: yes

(Just bumping this thread with my own post, since nobody else wanted to show theirs yet. You have some time to mingle with each other before we arrive at the earth planet)

“JERKS” Tat shouted as he sat down after making a run into the ship. Kiento felt a little bad, since he didn’t realize that Tat wasn’t on the ship already.

“I’ll take that as a yes,” Kiento muttered to himself, and then grasped the red handle. He grinned at Onigiri in the seat next to him, then pulled the lever back fast.

“Gigaboosters gigablasting... Launch Sequence... Initiated.” The ship’s rumbling became a fierce roar that probably would have deafened them all if they were still outside. The rocket’s booster jets ejected fire and smoke, and pushed the rocket into the skies. The half-destroyed school shrank behind them, and soon disappeared into the fields of green that surrounded it. The rocket soon left the atmosphere, and then it was the planet that began to shrink behind them.

“Launch Complete. Activating Astral Engine” The roaring died down as the ship switched its fuel source. The exquisite fins of the ship began to rotate, and the trail of fire and smoke from the engine was replaced by astral fuel, that was designed to propel ships through the voids of space, leaving a trail of processed space debris and cosmic dust that glittered like stars. What was special about the fuel was how it could fill up part of its tank with the very cosmic dust in the voids around it, allowing the ship to travel for days on end. That wasn’t what this unlikely band of heroes was going to do: the ship was now moving along and the group’s quest began.

“Erd is the nearest planet,” Ramen shouted up to Kiento, “Shall we stop off for more stuff there?”

“Since we never had a destination in mind yet, I suppose that is our only option.” Kiento shouted back. He took hold of the joystick in front of him and gave it an experimental tug, the ship swerved sharply at the touch, pushing Kiento back into his chair. The flight controls were incredibly sensitive, so Kiento took care to control the ship gently, at least for now.

“Hey, Oni,” Kiento asked his more-free handed co-pilot. Kiento paused to look at the cluster of stars and asteroids floating far, far away in front of them “Where exactly is Erd?”

"Erd, Erd, Erd..." Onigiri mumbled, attempting to find a map. He found one, and rifled through it, attempting to find Erd. Having failed that, he attempted to find their planet, but failed again.

He sighed, got out of his seat, seeing as they were now pretty much cruising, and walked over to Ramen. "Help Kiento out, I heard something rattle as we blasted off and I don't want us breaking to pieces anytime soon." He gave the map to Ramen, and walked off in the direction of the engine room.

OoC: Shooooooooort. When you've all posted (or the RP's about to die) I'll get Onigiri to come back and we'll continue to Erd from there, a bit like how the game lands the Hero on Erd ;)

As her classmates jibbered on to themselves, Sushi was too busy racking through the food and ingredients to notice anything was being said. She was a little bit stunned by Kazuki stopping half way through a sentence to walk out, but Sushi was a strange girl; it wasn't as if people had been a little bit weird around her before.

Most of the food in the cupboards was out of date. No, all of it. Well, there were some strange looking beans she had found that smelled okay, but ... Were they even supposed to be rainbow-coloured? At least she had found a bag of Mr Takeshi's Magic Counters to chew on a little on the journey. They were small, round chocolate counters excellent for dipping in tea. They had 'spacedust' inside; little multicoloured balls of sugar that, when in your mouth, dissolved and crackled and hissed-

"JERKS!"

This was the only sound that disrupted Sushi from her edible fantasies; the sound of her fellow classmate, and good friend, screaming out in an upset sort of voice.

It was then that Sushi became aware of what was happening around her; the floor was shaking, the walls were shaking, the ceiling was shaking, the cupboards and all inside them were shaking (Sushi had earlier shrugged it off and suspected it to be a bag of something out of date rumbling and becoming a living organism. Or something).

With a happy frolicking motion, Sushi jumped into the main room of the rocket where she noticed Tat sitting - and so bounced onto the seat beside him.

"Her-loooooo, Ta-"

With a sudden booming noise, the rocket ship moved in a powerful upwards motion and the windows on the walls seemed to show a general spiralling motion, into - well ... into space!

Luckily for Sushi, she had her arm wrapped around the seat she sat upon, and so, wasn't thrown somewhere or other in the jolt. On the other hand - or rather, in the other hand, a couple of Magic Counters flew away out of her white packet of sweets, and surely this was a great loss to her as her heart sank.

"Oh, bother ..." she murmured as she tried to grasp the counters before the flew away. She was now kneeling on her seat, one arm out and flailing to try and catch the sweeties. With a pout, she plopped her backside onto the seat and turned her head to smile at Tatsoi.

"But anyway," she smiled, "How are you doing now, Tatters~? You look awfully sick," she popped a counter into her mouth before thrusting them towards Tat, "have one if these! Though, they're not very pop-y ..."

Not very pop-y? Her taste-buds would have to disagree. There was currently a party commencing within her jaws, her tongue was going numb now.

"Erd's the nearest planet," Sushi heard Ramen shout to Kiento in the cockpit, "shall we stop for more stuff there?"

Although they were just talking to each other, as Sushi kneeled up on her seat, she felt the urge to reply to them.

"Yeth!" she called out, still refraining to notice that her tongue was numb, "We need more foodth!"

It was then she noticed her inability to feel her tongue. With a grin, she sat down and turned to face Tat. "Ohm! Maybe tey are a litto pop-y!" she said excitedly. Maybe a little too excitedly.

(OOC: okayso I needed to post and I couldn't think of anything else to do ; x ; I've probably messed it up somehow but wrenngghh I hope it's okay |D)

Ramen took the map out of Oni's hand, and once he was heading the other way, Ramen grinned smugly. He would, quite literally, be in his element. Ramen hopped into the cockpit, and sat beside Kiento happily.
Ramen examined the map for a few moments, his finger slowly following a squiggly line that faintly illuminated a path to Erd.
"Right-o," Ramen chirped "Round a bouts, that way."
Pointing in a very general right direction, getting to Erd wasn't Ramen's prime concern. It was all the things he would do when he got there.

Kazuki waited for Onigiri to make his way into the spaceship before closing the door again. It locked automatically, apparently sensing all of its passengers were inside. Kazuki sat down in the chair her vest had been on, putting it on again because it was the slighest bit chilly inside the cabine- For a Light Mage, of course- And strapped herself to the chair.

They weren't taking off just yet, of course; Kazuki still heard a couple of voices coming from the cockpit. She hoped the manual had been of use, or they'd be vacuum bacteria food in ten minutes.

Kazuki, being sensitive to electromagnetic waves, felt the strange sensation of technology around her whizzing to life. Apparently, someone was pushing buttons. 'Everybody set back there?' Kiento called out from the cockpit, and in the silence that followed, apparently, he found a thumbs-up sign.

The engines roared as sunlight appeared in the airlocked windows of the ship; Apparently, the school's clock tower/top secret launch platform was breaking open. Ever so slowly, the ship moved upwards with great power, humming as all the passengers were pushed into the back of their seats. Kazuki's ears popped a bit.

After a couple of minutes, the amount of force per square centimeter that was working on their bodies dullened until it eventually disappeared. They were in space. Half an hour ago, it was any normal, dull school day, and now they were in space. Kazuki's heart pumped. She was loving it so far.

(OOC: Well, this wasn't dying at all. On a related note; Space.

(PUSH BABY! PUSH!)

Perhaps it was luck, perhaps it was fate, or perhaps it was just the fact that the planets orbit very fast. In any case, a floating landmass appeared in the voids in front of the rocket after an hour. Erd appeared as a flat-world, a lump of dry desert, highlands, and chunks of rock floating on the edges of the planet’s “atmosphere”. Even from a distance, the arid climate the surface gave off could be felt in the rocket.

“Alright, better check how to land this thing,” Kiento muttered, taking the instruction manual and checking the contents index, “Okay, right next to the upgrades section” he continued, beginning to flip through the pages, “should be right about… he- … huh?” Kiento did not find the landing page, nor did he see an upgrade page either, the book skipped right over those two sections. “Of all the pages to be missing…” Kiento groaned

“Warning, planet collision imminent, please activate landing sequence or change course…” the onboard computer warned, Kiento looked at the planet, and noticed a particularly large mass on the planet that held a large strip of desert, dotted with rocky outcroppings. A fierce sandstorm blew through it; battering at anything that lived or was foolish enough to be in the desert at that time; nothing even a student wind magician like Kiento couldn’t handle. Kiento looked at the buttons and formed a plan,

Kiento activated the ship intercom again and spoke an announcement into it “We are now coming in for landing, please fasten your seatbelts and keep your chair upright. This will be a rough landing, so if we don’t make it, I am truly sorry.” Kiento finished, cracking his furred rabbit paws together. “It’s time to improvise…”

“Main engine… offline, speed rapidly decreasing.” the computer announced, as Kiento rapidly tapped buttons to cut off their thrust. He angled the rocket so that is was now on a course aimed towards the desert, with the blowing sand threatening to beat them to nothing. He then began to mutter an incantation, the traditional spell for dispelling wind. In front of them, the sandstorm quickly died and left a windless strip of desert sand to serve as their runway. With fingers crossed, Kiento allowed the rocket to cruise side-on into the sand. With a vicious rock and violent vibration, the rocket dug part way into the sand and began to slow down, sending ear-splitting noises sand spewing everywhere behind it. The ship continued to cruise through the sand, steadily slowing down. At the end of the line, the ship pushed itself up onto a large outcropping, pointing the rocket’s nose towards the sky again, and then stopped. Kiento waited four seconds to make sure he was still alive, and then pressed the intercom button.

“We have had a successful landing, welcome to Erd, and thank you for flying with Rabbit Spaceways”

(I think I described Erd right, I don't really have a reference on me...)

Ramen was, for the most part, oblivious to Kiento's growing concerns regarding the instruction manual. His head was buzzing with the exciting thought of going home, saying hello to the friends and family he hadn't seen in ages. It was only when the rocket began to shudder disconcertingly, and Erd began to get much, much closer, did Ramen snap out of his daydream and look to Kiento.

“Warning, planet collision imminent, please activate landing sequence or change course…” blared the robotic computer's voice.

Ramen swore, and began frantically looking over the buttons and levers. Most of which were flashing red at this stage. Then, as if his panicky mood wasn't bad enough, Ramen noticed the sandy clouds raging the desert of Erd. The planet had a perfect shape should one wish to survey it. It looked almost as if it was a rock tugged from the earth, it's upper half weathered away and populated, while the lower half looked rough, hanging frozen in space.

However Kiento seemed to be handling to the situation to mild success. Ramen heard the mutter of a wind incantation, and the clouds of the sandstorm parted like the Red Sea. Ramen relaxed a bit, just a bit, seeing that Kiento and company had a slightly less hard time landing.
But the tribulations of Erd were not over yet. The ship still had to land somewhat safely, with all crew intact preferably.

Ramen held onto his seat, white-knuckled, and closed his eyes. While he was certainly adept at fixing ships at home, sitting in the front seat on a collision course with the desert floor in one certainly put him on edge, to say the least.

There were a few, nerve-wrecking bangs, before the ship began to plough into the sand, its nose ending up jutted out. There was silence, and then...

“We have had a successful landing, welcome to Erd, and thank you for flying with Rabbit Spaceways”

Ramen opened his eyes, let out one of the most satisfying sighs in his life, and smiled. He was home!

~*~

Ramen was one of the first to bust out of the clammy cockpit, wobbling rather giddily down the ladder to the exit. He kicked open the door happily, shaking from the adrenaline still flowing from the landing. He spread his tanned arms up in the sun, taking it all in for a moment.

"Now!" He shouted, pointing his finger towards the north of the desert, " First, I have some friends to say hi to, and then, supplies~."

The view from the window was absolutely mesmerizing- All those stars, a glimpse of Kovomaka as they sped away from it- And kept Kazuki busy for a whole two minutes before she got bored. The view didn’t change at a very quick rate, really.

She looked around, and saw the classmates who weren’t currently attempting to control a spaceship in the cockpit strapped to their seats as well. At a lack of better things to do, she moved herself into a slightly uncomfortable position and grabbed the papers torn from the ship’s manual.

Kazuki wasn’t the most technically talented of people, and as she carefully read the pages and studied the detailed drawings of which parts fitted where and how, she realized she would probably need Onigiri’s and probably Ramen’s help at fitting the weapons- Unfortunately. Asking for help wasn’t something she did very often.

She read on, taking occasional breaks to look around at her classmates and checking for any signs of danger- Any unexpected alarms, flashing red lights, the like. You never knew with those guys in the cockpit, flying this thing.

After an hour or so, she’d gotten to what looked like the last page of the Upgrades chapter (Z-Ray Pistols), which was odd because she was only halfway trough the wad of paper. She skipped a couple of pages and was mentally assaulted by a bunch of technical terms and vibrant diagrams of coloured buttons. What she did manage to gleam from text, is that all of this had to do with initiating the landing sequence.

…Which meant Kiento had no idea how to do that right now.

An emotionless and robotic voice lingered from the cockpit, carrying a dreadful sentence. Warning; Planet collision imminent, please activate landing sequence or change course.

Oh

Shit.

The one thing going trough her mind was to unbuckle her seatbelts and get over to the cockpit, with the landing manual. Then she realized it was stupid, because they didn’t exactly have the time to carefully read the whole chapter. Even if it had been a rational thing to do, she couldn’t have. She was frozen in her seat, her nails clawing at the fabric. Kazuki did not like the idea of a crash landing.

‘We are now coming in for landing, please fasten your seatbelts and keep your chair upright.’ Kiento’s voice said over the ship’s intercom. ‘This will be a rough landing, so if we don’t make it, I am truly sorry.’ Oh, yeah, I feel so much better now. You stink, Kiento.

Main Engine; Offline. Speed rapidly decreasing, The robotic voice of the ship said, still in the same matter-of-fact manner. The silent and smooth glide trough the vacuum changed into a sudden hint of vibration, and soon turned into violent turbulence as they descended into Erd’s atmosphere.

Kazuki held onto her chair for dear life, even though she knew it wouldn’t be much of a help. She knew hey were getting close to the surface now, as she heard the patter of sand against the rocket’s hull. The ship was starting to fly at a more horizontal angle, which she guessed was a good thing. She hadn’t seen anything about retractable wheels in the Upgrades chapter, but they could be a basic component. She’d never heard of an official horizontal landing strip on Erd tho-

And then the rocket hit the surface of the floating continent, sending a teeth-clattering shock trough Kazuki and probably everyone else aboard the ship along with some uncomfortable strains where the seatbelts had held them tied to their seats. They plowed trough sand, surprisingly enough not digging themselves in, and eventually came to halt. Kazuki finally let go of her breath, and shakily took in some new ones.

‘We’ve had a successful landing! Welcome to Erd, and thank you for flying with Rabbit Spaceways!’ Kiento’s voice rang out from the intercom again.

Oh, you little-

Kazuki’s thoughs were interrupted by Ramen, who was running past all the seats towards the door. As an Earth mage, of course he’d be happy to come to Erd.

Kazuki unbuckled as well, and stood up. Her legs were still bit wobbly- Both from the near-disaster with the rocket and the sudden increase in gravity- but she attempted to shake it off with some level of dignity and followed Ramen outside.

Upon leaving the rocket, Kazuki was met with warm breeze and bright sunlight, more then enough to make her squint her eyes. Hey, lots of warmth and sunshine? She thought she could like it here.

‘Now!’ Ramen shouted, pointing his finger in what seemed like a random direction to Kazuki. ‘First I have some friends to say hi to, and then, supplies.’ He finished. Kazuki rolled her eyes. ‘Shouldn’t supplies be the top priority on that list? Seeing as without it, we, y’know, can’t survive?’

A dreaded though appeared to her at that moment. ‘Hold up. How are we going to get the money to pay for supplies, rocket fuel and the upgrades? I’m sure Mr. Kalamari thought of that.’ She went back into the rocket, brutally obstructing the rest of her classmates who were getting out to bathe in the Erden heat as well, to search trough every locker, cupboard and glove box. There had to be a blank cheque, a credit card, a bundle of cash stashed somewhere. Where else would they get their income from?
