DPPt/HGSS Golbat Issue

My Golbat got to lvl 50 it started to evolve then stopped! Any ideas on a cause? ( it has done this several times. each time it lvl.s up)

I'm assuming you're playing Fire Red or Leaf Green. If so, then Golbat (or Chansey, or any other first-gen Pokemon that got an evolution after that) will not evolve until you get the National Pokedex.
