Devin cursed a bit as indeed the Aqua Ring made the damage null and void as Ellie seemed to pant as the pain from the Scalad still showed and it seemed more apparent that the Dragon-type was on her last legs. Devin needed to think of something, and something quick as it seemed the Corsola fired a powerful blast right their way. Though this seemed a slight degree off target due to the residual paralysis and Devin aimed to take advantage.

"Ellie uses Twister to move and strike!" Devin called out, as the Dratini weakly nodded as she spun around and produced dragon scales as she spun and just dodged the off target Power Gem blast before she fired it as she aimed to strike with the twister right on the Gym Leader's ace.

"Cora, brace yourself!" Jacky called out as she figured her Pokemon couldn't move because of the paralysis. The gym leader watched as her Pokemon was hit with the twister. Cora tried her best to stand her ground and closed her eyes as she took the impact, stumbling to the sides, but managing to stay in place. "Okay Cora, let's show them what a real attack is like, Power Gem one more time!" Cora let out a cry as it charged her attack and hurled glowing gems towards the dragon Pokemon.

Newt coasted down the stream, Relicanth taking the boy slow and steady across the water. The hoodie wearing trainer had a calm heartbeat as his nerves were calmed. He inhaled the scent of pines from the nearby forest, the whiff of Pomeg berries in the distance.

It was a stark contrast to his home...clammy and crowded with people. Here he had no need to feel claustrophobic....

Wait.

Newt looked down to Relicanth, feeling concerned for the brown aquatic pokemon.

“Relicanth, it must have been horrible for you...trapped in such a tight space for who knows how long. With no one to turn to and no way to call for help...I would have gone insane. I don’t know how you did it.”

Relicanth was awfully quiet, not making much of a sound in response. Newt patted the rough scales of the ancient pokemon, sympathizing with it.

“At least you won’t have to worry about being buried anymore.”

“Caaaaaaaaaaa.”

The fish uttered as if it were some kind of sea cow, something that could possibly be taken as a sign of gratitude? It was dubious at best, but Newt decided to take it as it was.

"Look out!" Devin called out as Ellie managed to land the twister, though Corsola managed to remain standing as the water-type fired another powerful Power Gem and this time the Dratini would not be able to avoid it as the energy blast struck her center of the chest as she was blasted out of the pool and landed with a thud by Devin's feet as she was knocked out by the blow unable to battle.

"You did great Ellie, you earned a good rest." Duke said as he picked up the Dragon-type and returned her to her Pokeball. So it came down to this, and it seemed indeed Terra would have to step up though the rock type showed no fear as she moved to a platform and faced the Corsola with a determined look of intensity.

Ellie had worked so hard to give them this chance, Terra was gonna ensure her effort was not wasted. It was time to redeem her effort from before, it was time for them to win and win they would!

While waiting for the fishing contest, Dolan looked down at the waters edge at his reflection. His reflection began to distort and ripple as Skol stuck his tail in the water causing the water to make small ripples. "Hopefully this year we do better than last year. You can count on that Old Reliable. Your gonna catch the biggest fish! Your gonna look real cool with one of those fancy lures" Dolan said talking to his fishing pole.

Skol continued to sit there with his tail in the water, toes in the sand, and not a worry in the world but for when his next meal will come. Meanwhile Gosil sat atop a large rock while simultaneously looking for an even bigger rock to climb atop so that he might better assert his dominance over the local area. In the distance, Dolan spotted a large fin stick out of the water for a brief moment, but didn't make out the pokémon before it fully submerged into the watery depths once more.

Jacky smiled as the rock type took the stage. "I was wondering who I would face from our last encounter." She stretched her arms upward and then took a deep breath. "Let's see how much you two have improved! Cora let's make the first move, Scald!"
The Corsola shot her attack directly towards Terra. "Make sure to follow it! They can't escape into the water!" Jacky called out as her Pokemon began directing her attack wherever the other Pokemon would move, but after a few moments it flinched as the paralysis kicked in.

"Dry as a desert over here," Rowan replied as he shook his head, "Though, for what it's worth, I have a grass and an electric type, so I can probably make short work of the Sharpedo once I get the chance." The alolan trainer took a moment to consider his next words carefully, since what he said previously could've left a bad impression.

"Do we have the time to get a water Pokemon?"

"Alright Terra leap over it and use Bite. Wait for a chance to strike!" Devin called out, as the one thing he had to his advantage on this is the fact Corsola still was struggling with the Paralysis as Terra nodded; she jumped over the boiling water and landed on another platform and had began to hop around as Devin bit his lip and sure enough Corsola flinched and Devin saw an opening.

Terra charged and aimed to bite down on the Corsola hard as she could; the Rockruff aiming to do much damage as she could and in an ideal world jump back onto a platform to gain space once the move had left its mark.

"Hmmm, if we have to go out into the lake then your grass and electric types won't be able to fight properly, you'll be Sharpedo bait," The lure master idly stroked his beard as he thought of a solution. When dealing with powerful water-type pokemon, the most important thing to do was check your environment. The second most important thing to do was carry a powerful water-type pokemon of your own. While common sense suggested an Electric or Grass-type as the young-boy had rightly suggested, even the most powerful of electric types couldn't put up a good fight if it was drowning.

"You two should search the canals, check the near their roots and try to find where the Sharpedo entered the city, and, if you can, try to catch a water type while you're at it.

"When you're done you should join me at the lake. I'm going to go recruit some more helpers. Luckily, at this time of year, we have all sorts of water-pokemon-catching experts arriving."

The old man chuckled to himself and left the duo to it. Luckily this Sharpedo had chosen now to make itself known. The annual fishing competition had drawn all sorts of trainers towards Aquamarine city, and involving them in the hunt would drastically speed things up. It was unfortunate that they couldn't save thee child who'd been eaten, but at least they could prevent any more casualties.

Jacky bit her lip as the bite landed on her Cora, flinch and paralysis was not a good combination, but her rock type seemed more than set as the Corsola healed a bit with aqua ring while taking the attack. Once she was able to move again she begin shaking, giving Jacky the command she was ready to attack. "Great, Cora, use Power Gem!" Jacky called, Cora began to glow and fired five gems in different directions, hoping one would land.

Devin frowned. This Aqua Ring had proven to be quite the annoyance as it seemed no matter what damage he did Corsola could regain some losses which seemed to put this at an endurance which given Terra's typing and the field worked against their favor. Though that was the least of their worries as several strong Power Gem blasts shot in multiple directions as Terra managed to avoid the path of most but one shot and seemed set to crash into her face.

"Use Rock Blast to block it!" Devin called out as Terra fired several rocks she produced from her collar as they slammed to the Power Gem blast as the explosion prevented her from being directly hit but the shockwave knocked her into the pool as the Rockruff quickly & frantically tried to dogpaddle back onto a platform.

"Well that's adorable." Jacky said before laughing out loud as she watched the Rockruff swim. "Cora make things interesting for them, Scald to block their path!"
The Corsola smirked as it began shooting it's Scald in front of Terra, blocking the path for it to get out of the water.
"You have to get creative kid, either your pup runs out of steam and faints in the water or it tries to go through our Scald attack, either way, you're in a difficult situation." Jacky seemed to be testing Devin, waiting to see how they would get out of the trouble they were now in.

Naturally the Scalad produced boiling blockades to the nearest platform which startled Terra and caused Devin to bite his lip as he tried to think of a solution. Eventually, he came to one though it seemed a bit experimental but hey at this point he had to try anything he could.

"Terra use Double Team! And get to a platform!" Devin called out, as the Rockruff nodded and soon a half dozen Terras appeared and all began to dog paddle; one moved around the Scalad path to take the long way to a platform, one seemed to dare to swim through it and others tried to swim to further platforms though of course only one had been real among them.

Jacky's eyes widen as she saw the strategy of Devin play out and scape her trap. "Wow I'm impressed, but enough warming up, Cora, Power Gem again!"

Jacky's more serious tone made the Corsola look more serious also. She set her eyes on the group of rock types and began shooting Power Gems at them through the air, like missiles falling all over the area where the opponent was. Jacky looked more concentrated on the outcome now, searching the arena for the original Rockruff. "Shoot a Scald down the middle and then continue with the Power Gems!"
The water type stopped her attack, shot a strong Scald down the middle, until it impacted the center, leaving a wave of steam and once again it began shooting Gems into the sky.

With the wide spread offensive it became clear which of the copies were fake or not as Scalad passed through one Rockruff which faded and Power Gem blasts also began to disperse the illusion rock dogs though for Devin it managed to do what it sought out to do; buy him time as the real Terra managed to sneak around the initial Scalad and finally got on solid platform as she took a second to shake the water off her fur as Devin seemed relieved.

"Terra quick use Sand Attack!" Devin called out, as he knew he had to strike before Corsola took aim at the real one as Terra shook sand from her fur and flung it towards Corsola as she aimed to adjitate its eyes and hopefully reduce its accuracy to leave it open for a proper counter strike.

Cora cried out as sand hit her eyes. She shook her head trying to get rid of the stinging sensation, but her vision had become somewhat blurry. Jack looked upset as she tried to figure out what to do. "What a dirty move kid, but a battle is a battle." She said as she pointed at the water. "Cora, mess with their vision also, use Scald on the water to create steam!" Cora began to hit the water in front of it, creating a cloud of steam that kept growing, until Cora's paralysis caused it to stop its attack, leaving the Pokemon standing still while the aqua ring took effect once more.

Rowan scratched his head in mild annoyance. Though the lure master made a compelling point, and he would normally welcome the opportunity to add a water type to his team, the fact remained that it was a hassle to catch a water type just to ferry your Grass or Electric type of choice towards what should be an easy kill. Disregarding this, the Alolan trainer nodded obediently before turning to Ellen to make her aware of his intentions.

"I'll hit the town and see if anyone can direct me to the canals. I'll try to catch a water type as soon as possible," Once he said this, he turned to the lure master as he was about to leave, "I'll see you at the lake." Walking back into town, it didn't take long for the Alolan trainer to find someone to direct him to the canals. Unfortunately, reaching the canals was the last thing that Rowan could do on his own. Though he had experience catching Pokémon, all of his encounters were on land, leaving him with a bit of difficulty in how to progress.

Do I know anyone with experience in catching aquatic Pokémon...wait, of course I do!

With a stroke of inspiration, the aquatically inept trainer hightailed it to Jacky's Gym, hoping that Sandra would be spectating Devin's gym battle. Unfortunately, she wasn't present, yet there was a solitary Staryu staring at the struggle on the stands. Although it's possible that the Star Shape Pokémon simply wanted to observe battles, regardless of participants, that was highly unlikely. Without further hesitation, Rowan ran up on the spectator stands to consult the Water Type.

"Hey Astraea, do you know where Sandra is?" Rowan measured his tone to keep it urgent but calm, not wanting to scare the Staryu, "And if so, can you lead me to her? I need her help with something important." While he was in the gym, he decided to give a quiet thumbs up to Devin, since he wanted to show that he cared despite being busy.

"Considering I am fighting with a rock type in a water gym, I don't think code of conduct is at the top of my priorities I'm afraid." Devin said sheepishly but he remained focused on the battle, as it seemed Jacky adopted a similar strategy as she used mist to conceal the Corsola though the paralysis prevented her from doing much more. In this situation, Devin had to trust his instincts, or rather trust in Terra's.

"Terra, use your senses. Hear for the Corsola, try to pick up its scent. Then strike with bite!" Devin called out, as Terra nodded the Rocktuff keeping her ears sharp as she looked to pick up for the most subtle signs among the mist. And sure enough, Terra seemed to pick up on the faint sounds Corsola made as she jumped over to the water type's platform and attempted to bite at her once more with all her might.

Course even if they connected Devin knew the Aqua Ring would mitigate some of the damage. If they were to win, they'd need to hit combo moves on her and try to wear down her health all at once before she could recover some. This next sequence of moves Devin figured would decide the match.

Jacky crossed her arms, looking concerned and thinking of what to do next. Meanwhile Cora cried out as it received the bite of her opponent, because of the flinch and paralysis, she was unable to move, only being able to heal a small portion. The Corsola closed her eyes and endured, waiting for her trainer to do something. Jacky finally reacted and called out her next order. "Cora, Power Gem! Then try and hide in the water!" The Corsola shoot her Power Gems and then tried to flee into the water, but the paralyzed effect stopped her just an inch from the water. "Hurry Cora!" Jacky called out, hoping to be able to gain sometime to recover inside the pool.

"Watch out Terra!" Devin called out, as once the Bite landed Jacky seemed to respond with a frantic call to Power Gem, and unfortunately even as Terra tried to move away she could not escape it as the energy beam slammed into Terra's side which knocked the Rockruff to the side of the platform as she groaned in pain. A tough blow as Devin bit his lip as he knew this would sting, but the paralysis was bound to not last much longer and they had to try and take advantage.

"Terra, try to stand and keep Corsola from going in the water! Use Tackle!" Devin called out, not bound to be an effective blow but the aim was more to move Corsola to the center of the platform before she'd be able to escape into the water. Terra would make it to all fours as she tried to shake off the blow of the Power Gem and dashed hoping to tackle Corsola by the side as she circled her in an effort to keep her "grounded."

Astraea was staring intently at the battle in front of them, but was snapped out of their musings when Rowan began to talk to them about the location of Sandra. It took a while for the Water type to remember where their trainer was, but eventually they figured it out. Flashing its core, they turned themselves onto their side and rolled out of the door, hoping that Rowan would follow them. The Staryu rolled through the city, eventually ramming into a girl that was walking around.

"Oof!" Sandra barely managed to stay standing as Astraea bumped into her. Turning around to see who was so careless to bump into her, the Johtonian was surprised to see her starter. "Astraea? What are you doing outside of your Pokéball? I could've sworn that you were in your Pokéball, how did you escape?" The water type confused the girl so much that she didn't recall the Pokémon, instead opting to stand still and think about the situation.

Jacky frowned while her Corsola was pushed back, keeping her from getting into the water. The paralysis was working heavily against them, they would need to clear a path to get to the water and hope the paralysis effect wouldn't stop them again. The GYM leader adjusted her gloves and pointed at the water in front of her Corsola.

"Cora! Get into that water, now!" She looked more focused on the battle than before. "Use Scald to clear the way!"

Cora nodded and puffed her cheeks before shooting a strong Scald attack down the middle. After that she jumped in the same direction the Scald had been fired, going straight for the water in front of her.

"Watch out!" Devin called out as Terra tried to jump to the side, but the Scalad managed to land on her back rightleg & side as the boiling water caused the Rock Type to scream in agony as the super effective shot managed to land a significant glancing shot on her as Devin had bitten his lip in concern.

Terra still was standing, if pained, but she'd be in no position the stop the Corsola from getting in the water as Devin had to think of a way to turn this around and quickly.

Jacky smirked at the opportunity they had created. "Go Cora!" The leader looked confident while her Pokemon dove into the water, gently sinking to the bottom to take a breather. Jacky took the opportunity to also calm herself down and examine the situation. The pup could only fight on the platforms, so as long as Cora kept to the water, they were sure to win. If the trainer was able to overcome this obstacle, then they surely deserved the badge. "Cora, once you're ready, jump out and use Power Gem!"

The Corsola let the aqua ring do it's thing while she rested at the bottom of the pool. As soon as she heard the order from her trainer, she used Scald as a boost to shoot herself up and out of the water. Cora flew into the air and looked down at her enemy on the platform, she tilted herself a bit to take aim and prepared to shoot a shower of Power Gems. Her back began to glow and she charged her attack and then, the paralysis took it's effect. Cora cried out as it was falling down, without being able to use her attack.

Terra tried to stand and recover as Devin knew they had to dodge quickly for what was coming, though given the platform's limited space and second that still had Scalad on it they had little wiggle room as Jacky seemed to realize this and wanted to strike quickly from the pool as Corsola jumped out and prepared to try and blast them with Power Gem.

"Terra d...."

Devin's command cut off as Corsola stalled in the air. Paralysis, even after being knocked out Ellie managed to give them a chance as Devin worked quickly to take advantage of it while he could. "....Terra use Bite and send Corsola flying!" Devin called out, as he saw a chance and knew he needed a combo to overcome the Aqua Ring. Terra nodded and quickly jumped up as she aimed to bite Corsola and then in a heave try to toss her high in the air where she'd have no water or land to squirm away on and set up the next move in Devin's combo.

Once Corsola had been knocked in the air, Devin prepared for the follow up. "Keep her up with consecutive Rock Throws! Devin called out as Terra barked and quickly flung several rocks from her collar as the fired at rapid speed and struck Corsola as the Gym Opponent's Ace was kept up in a volley before she reared her paws back to gather strength; the pain of the Scalad was still felt but she had to suck it up. This was their chance, she had to do her part to not waste it!

Terra jumped as high as she could, and as Corsola began to drift down in the air the Rockruff shot over her as Terra quickly pivoted and shot down aiming to slam her full body in a mid-air tackle and aimed to bring Corsola crashing down on a platform with as much force as she could muster.

"Cora no!" Jacky called as she saw her Corsola unable to fight back in the air and get hit with a combo of moves. "You can do it girl, I believe in your!" The GYM leader called out.

Cora clenched her teeth as she took the full combo attack, trying her best to withstand the fury of attacks. The Corsola cried out as it was slammed down against the platform, causing the platform itself to shake from the impact. Jacky watched silently, waiting to see if her Pokemon had survived the combination of attacks. Corsola however remained silent and with her eyes closed, fainted. Jacky smiled as she returned her dear Pokemon back to her Pokeball. She looked up at Devin with a big grin.

"Good job boy, you came through this time, I really enjoyed our battle." She reached into her jean pocket and pulled out a small badge. "Come and get your prize!"

We...we did it...

Terra growned a bit, that combo having pushed her tolerance for pain to its limits as she moved away on three good legs as the one that had been hit with the Scalad became unbearably sore. Devin really had no plan for what happens if Corsola proved tough enough to handle this combo. Thankfully, it seemed to have worked as Corsola was defeated and Jacky congratulated Devin and his partners on a job well done; even showing the badge as proof.

And yet Devin still struggled to believe it, which sadly allowed that dumbstruck expression to hang for several long seconds. But once it did Devin felt a shiver shoot through his spine as he jumped in in the air with his fist raised.

"W-we did it! Terra we did it our first badge!"

"Ruff!"

Trainer and Pokemon embraced each other as they ran and Terra jumped in Devin's hard as Devin had given the rock type the biggest and warmest hug as both seemed equally overjoyed at their achievement. Though Devin quickly and rather frantically shuffled in his belt and pulled out Ellie's Pokeball as the whole team needed credit for this.

"You were awesome Ellie, I can't wait I tell you in person." Devin said with a smile, before he realized the other part of what Jacky said as quickly Terra moved off him and both she and Devin walked over to Jacky to accept the badge from the trainer. "T-thank you, you were incredible. Believe me I will cherish this."

After finishing breakfast Atticus had hurried on over to the gym only to find another boy had beaten him to it!

“Oh well, I guess it couldn’t hurt to watch and get a feel for things...” Though his disappointment soon turned into excitement as he watched the dramatic battle unfold. Atticus became infatuated with the scene unfolding in front of him, the combos, the little bit of necessary luck, and ultimately the trust between trainer and Pokémon allowed the challenger to pull away with the win despite being at a type disadvantage.

“Woah! What a battle. You guys and your Pokémon were amazing!!!” Atticus clapped and cheered as he ran out towards the gym leader and trainer followed by his posse of Pokémon. “I hope you’re ready for a round two cause that got us all fired up!”

Jack smiled as she gave Devin his badge and then looked confused as Atticus arrived. "Another one? Please tell me you're the last one, I missed the fishing contest because of this..." She sighed and then chuckled. "Well I can't back out from a challenge. Two versus two, you can switch once during the battle, first one to lose both Pokemon loses. Go take your spot kid." Jacky handed her Pokeballs to a young trainer wearing a bathing suit, who took them and ran to the back.

Meanwhile Jacky waited for Atticus to take his spot in the field as some Pokemon and trainers cleaned the pool and fixed the platforms. She yawned and stretched her arms upwards with a smirk on her face, wondering where the sudden wave of trainers had come from. Once she finished stretching, the trainer came back and gave her the Pokeballs. She thank him and faced her opponent. "Ready kid?" She smiled as a referee took his spot. Jacky held a Net ball in her hand.

“You bet I am.” Atticus grinned as he took his spot, returning all his Pokémon but one as he prepared for the battle.

Since it’s a water type gym Topaz is my best bet.

“Topaz, I’m counting on you to get us off to a strong start. This is our first big step on our journey to becoming champion!” He gave a thumbs up to his partner pokemon and the emolga flexed it’s tiny muscles as it showed off its confidence.

Good. As long as I’m with my Pokémon we’re unstoppable. Let’s do this!

Devin was also taken aback as Atticus walked into the building but soon had a sheepish smile as he seemed to congratulate his and his Pokemon's efforts as he rubbed the back of his head. "T-thanks, that means a lot..." Devin said and it seemed he was gonna step up next which as Jacky commented on the fishing contest caused Devin's eyes to widen.

R-right, I missed that too! I wonder how the guys did with that?

"Good luck g-guys!" Devin said to both Gym Leader and challenger as he pinned the badge under his jacket and carried Terra out of the Gym as his first order of business was to get his teammates healed up first and foremost. They soon arrived in the Pokemon Center as he placed Terra on the desk and passed Ellie's Pokeball as he turned to the nurse.

"E-excuse me, my Pokemon had a tough battle with the Gym and they could use some recovery." Devin explained as Terra groaned a bit at the Pokeball Devin pulled out as he assured her it would be for but a brief time. With a nod the Rock type consented as Devin returned her and Nurse Joy took both Pokeballs with a smile on her face.

"Of course, will see to it right away." Nurse Joy assured as she took the Pokeballs and that familiar jingle sounded as Devin waited and waited but before long the jingle came to an end as the nurse passed his two Pokeballs back with a smile.

"There we go, both should be fully healed. Just make sure they get some rest and you should be good to go~" Nurse Joy smiled as Devin thanked her before walking out with his two partners as he released both Terra and Ellie; the Rockruff barked happily as her tail wagged and her tongue hung out while Ellie nervously looked up as she hoped that they were able to finish the fight. Hoped she helped to make a difference. She would soon feel a pat on the head as Devin crouched down and showed the Gym Badge to Ellie.

"We did it~"

Jacky smiled as she saw her opponents pumping themselves up for battle. "You got enthusiasm, I like that. Don't get confident with your type advantage kid." She tossed her Net Ball forward on to the platform and a Poliwag emerged. "Polo here might look simple, but he isn't a push over."

Polo slammed his tail against the floor and gave the Emolga a mean look. He seemed ready to go. The referee raised his hand while the giant screen showed the image of Emolga and Poliwag. The hand was pointed forward and the battle started. "Polo, rain dance." Jacky called out as soon as the match begun. Polo began shaking his body, which caused rain clouds to form above the field and it began to rain.

Hmmm a different pokemon from her last battle. I don't wanna just rush in until I know what it's capable of. Let's test the waters.

"Heheh." He smirked for a moment.

Lol, test the waters. No pun intended.

He paused and regained his composure. This is no time to be joking around. This is a real gym battle!

"Topaz start it out with a Thunder Shock!"

The flying squirrel jumped off the platform and took flight, soaring above the poliwag before discharging a shock towards the platform where it stood.

Jacky looked upset as she saw the simple start by her opponent, it felt like she was being taken lightly. She grinned as she decided to go offensive against the young trainer, maybe teach him a thing or two about how to treat a GYM Leader. "Show them your power Polo, Scald!"

Polo took in a deep breath, aimed at the flying mouse and then shot a strong Scald straight through the thundershock and towards his enemy.

Uh oh!

Atticus didn't really know what to expect, but he certainly wasn't expecting that strong of a move right of the bat, from a poliwag much less.

Well I guess she's a gym leader for a reason. Boosting her strength with rain dance was a good call, not to mention that Scald is no joke!

"Try to dodge!" He shouted, but it was too late. Topaz pivoted in the air but the rain through off its flight just enough that the attack collided with one of it's wingflaps and sent it barreling towards the pool.

That's no good. If we fall into the water she get's the upper hand and we're screwed!

"Quick! Lean into the roll and use Quick Attack."

The emolga slowly regained composure as it stopped panicking and allowed gravity to run its course. Then, just moments before impact, Topaz had restored its balance and redirected the momentum from falling into its speedy attack.

Polo cried out as it was hit by the quick attack, making him stumble backwards. He then shook his body and looked around for his opponent, ready to engage in battle once more.

"Let's show them what we can do!" Jacky cried out. "Into the pool, lose them and then hypnosis!"

Poliwag dove into the pool quickly, disappearing thanks to the rain causing too many ripples on the surface. A few second later the Poliwag emerged on the other side of the field, jumping out of the water in front of Atticus, facing the Emolga. It shot a few circular waves of purple energy towards it, trying to get it to sleep.

I can't risk falling asleep. A direct attack from this guy in the rain would be bad! A Thunder Shock won't work to counter it, I guess I only got one choice!

"Air Slash!" Topaz flapped its arms and sent two scythe like bursts of air through the hypnosis, disturbing the energy waves and slicing towards the poliwag.

"Don't stop there, follow it up with Spark!" The emolga performed a flip in the air to gain speed while coating itself in electricity and charged
close behind the air slashes.

Polo moved his small feet as he had nowhere to go in mid air, but his trainer seemed prepared to deal with the situation. "Polo relax, shoot Scald to boost yourself out of the way!"

Polo quickly shot a Scald downwards, using the pressure from the attack to fly high in the air and over the attacks sent by the Emolga. It did a front flip over the attacking Pokemon and dove straight into the water. Jacky smirked with confidence before looking up at the rain clouds, she seemed to be keeping track of how much rain they had left. She then turned towards the battle field again and pointed at the Emolga. "Keep it on it's toes, wing flaps or whatever, Scald again!"

Polo emerged from the center of the pool and shot Scald towards the flying mouse once again.

It's so quick!

Atticus flinched, he knew there was no avoiding this time as the Scald slammed into Topaz's exposed back and sent it skidding into the platform on Atticus's side of the battlefield.

How are we supposed to handle this speed?

There was a brief pause, it appeared the emolga had reached its limit, but just before the ref could call declare the pokemon defeated, the tiny pokemon stumbled to its feet.

A prideful smile broke out on the young boys face. Topaz hasn't given up yet so why would I! I've heard some pokemon can have a special ability... maybe this Poliwag's special ability is the same as the one Jett has and boosts it's speed in water and rain. In that case.... I gotta either stick with quick attack or find a way to slow it down.

Just as Atticus had formed his plan he noticed that the rain had shifted from a downpour to a light trickle. It's now or never!

"Topaz, now's our chance! Double Team and Quick Attack!" Topaz roared with surprising vigor for an injured rodent and jumped into the air, creating an army of clones that simultaneously broke into a dash and charged at the Poliwag.
