Free PC-based MMORPGs?

The ad for this one game keeps popping up on IGN. A free MMO RPG. But is MapleStory actually any good?

I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about it or has any experience playing it. Is it something people who don't want to pay MMO fees could get into and enjoy, or is it not even worth the time of day?

I wouldn't mind signing up and checking it out if others were interested or already had accounts, otherwise I'd probably just ignore it. The ads are taunting me, tho. TAUNTING ME! >>

That said, what other free MMO games are there that you guys actively play?

While I've heard of Maplestory, I know almost nothing of it. I'd have to read up on it's Wiki page.

But I do play another MMORPG called Second Life. The SL Wiki can explain more than I can, but it still can't explain everything. There are almost no limits to what you can do in this game... It's sometimes not even right to call it a game. I do know that I'm able to afford my Wii due to all the money I've made in Second Life. :p

The only problem is that if any of you guys join, you would be put into the Main Grid due to you being over 18. Except El... I'd be able to see him...

A while ago Steph (Lugiasian) got MS, and I was thinking about getting it too. This was back when it was still in Beta stage, and although it looked ok, Steph said it got boring after only a short time playing it. Then again, I could be wrong. My computer's settings won't let me download something like that anyways, so meh. No idea what it's actually like.

And more people are under 18 than you think, Sem; me for example ;)

Steph said it got boring after only a short time playing it.

Not that I'm ever going to say that Steph is right about... well, anything, ever... but pretty much ALL MMORPGs get extremely boring rather quickly. Their repetitive nature and lack of any real goal other than to better your character leaves you with a pretty shallow game.

Most people tend to use them really to socialise.

More or less what Oak said. I'm not really interested in making an account on a game nobody else here plays. Rather just play WFC then until a decent MMORPG was released on Wii.

Runescape... Nobody ever told me there was a free version =O
I think El and Rach play/played that (correct me if I'm wrong). If you guys still play it and it's easy to hook up in, let me know.

Runescape's free, yeah (unless you choose to pay), and it's definitely easy to use. The tutorial's a bit long for my liking, but it's to the point enough. ^^ I don't go on it much anymore. Don't know about El. But I do know that at some point, anyone who's interested in online games stumbles across it. :p

Huh. I hadn't actually heard about Maplestory untill now, but I checked out the site, and it seems pretty cool! I thin I'll sign up...

Anyway, there's another free MMORPG out there, that happens to be of a very high quality... It's called Entropia Universe and takes place in a futuristic space enviroment where the players try to colonize a new planet...
I downloaded it, but never really got around to playing it (too much work at the time... I might give it a shot again). The thing that makes Entropia really special is that you can actually earn money, real money, in the game. There's an exchange service so everything you earn in the game can be transferred to your credit card and vice-versa
