Do's and Don't's for Diamond and Pearl

Fairly straight forward: What aspects from the previous Pokemon games (including R/B/Y & G/S/C) do you want to see carried over into D/P and what would you not want to return?
If possible set up your post so that the Do's and Dont's are kept seperate and easy for others to read.

Do's
- Natures
- Abilities (with new ones for new Pokemon)
- Abilities having extra effects as seen in Emerald
- Being able to trade eggs at the beginning of the games as seen in R/S
- A second version of the Elite 4 like FR/LG
- The Battle Frontier or a new variation of it
- Each game having unique plot elements like R/S (only more so)
- The Everstone acting for breeding as it does in Emerald
- Move Tutors
- The Dive HM
- Emerald's 2 on 2 battle system (ie. if two trainers see you at once you enter the Double Battle)
- Keep the variety of different PokeBalls R/S/E had to offer (and add a few more)

Don't's
- Contests (Unless they get a serious revamping and you actually win worth-while prizes from 'em)

And that's all I can think of off-hand. There's not too much that I want to see dropped and this will probably be the case for most of you as well. Maybe not, though.

A second version of the Elite 4 like FR/LG

I'd actually like to see that expanded into an even further dynamic Elite 4. At it's most extreme, I'd like to see not only Pokemon changing but Elite members themselves.

The Champion system needs kept to what it was in R/S/E rather than FR/LG too. The notion of your rival managing to become Champion just before you EVERY time you challenge the Elite is daft, silly and has no place in Pokemon games these days.

Each game having unique plot elements like R/S (only more so)

The Advance Games have teased us over plot in general. There is one there, and it's much more involved than even G/S/C's but it can be expanded on so much more.

The Battle Frontier or a new variation of it

And don't keep it for the last game in the series either. I WILL slaughter you Tajiri.

- Keep the variety of different PokeBalls R/S/E had to offer (and add a few more)

Actually, I'd rather they didn't make any new balls at all. There are way more than you'd ever use at the moment and few have any real use at all. I still find myself sticking to Great and Ultra Balls, even against Pokemon that are supposedly caught better with these specialist balls. They were a nice touch to replace the Apricorns but more certainly aren't needed.

- Contests (Unless they get a serious revamping and you actually win worth-while prizes from 'em)

Having Contests like the anime's would be the only reason for having them. R/S's were patheticly boring and pointless. The only problem is that the amount of work and detail you'd have to put into the system to make it like the anime is far more than you'd get for a small mini-game within the game.

I'd rather they made a game devoted to Contests instead and simply did it right.

I can imagine that the Clock will once again return thanks to the DS' internal one - as well as Night/Day pallette changes thanks to the front-lit screens. But the extensive reliance on the time and day for catching Pokemon in G/S was a right pain in the arse.

If they bring that back, I want to see it used for AC like events ALONE.

That's why I'd want more. From GSC to RS they figured out which ones were useful and which weren't, keeping the ones people used the most, getting rid of the others, and trying their luck at new types althogether. I personally used the Net Ball and Timer Ball quite a bit and would love to see new variations on Balls like that. Maybe a few of them are useless and should be dropped, but keeping the exact same ones R/S had with no change at all would be pretty boring.

Meant to add that to my Don't list too. Night and Day would be a nice touch but having to catch certain Pokemon at certain times of day was far too annoying. It should've been fun and added depth to the game, not a chore/bother.

I'd put the Day/Night system back in for sure, but I don't want to see only a palette change. I liked GSC's day-specific and time-specific events, even the Pokémon availability. I want to see all of that back in, and even used more frequently.

I can make it much simpler by saying I want GSC with RSE's (or DP's) battle mechanics.

The way I see it, time-specific events in games are good in theory but don't always pan out. AC is 100% based on time-specific events so dealing with them in it becomes habit. In Pokemon you're focused on playing through/beating the game, so a heavy reliance on time tends to get in the way. I know that quite a few people in the past had complaints about trying to fill their PokeDexes yet not being able to play at certain times of day.

I don't doubt that a return of morn/day/night for catching Pokemon could work, but it if gives off the same feel that GSC's did I will be disappointed. Although... who knows? Maybe after playing AC I'm more used to the idea of time/day specific stuff and it won't be as much a problem *shrugs*

I'd hate it.

Completely.

I almost never play games before 6pm, simply because I don't have the time.

If they made Pokemon a time-specific thing again like in G/S/C - i'd be screwed and very, very unhappy. And I know I'm not alone.

I'd actually like the Radio back, I think it was a fun little addition. They'd need to add some things to it though. It has a lot of potential they just need to throw together some new features to funk it up and it would be awesome ^^

I liked the Radio too actually, but I guess the TV function in R/S/E was meant to replace it (which, to an extent, it did). What would be nice is a combination of the two for D/P. Keep the TV functions similar to R/S but add in elements that the Radio shows in GSC had. I always enjoyed listening to the radio shows on different kinds of Pokemon. It expanded on PokeDex info and gave you a new insight :)

You could always cheat and change the time on the DS to fool the game into thinking it's another time...but that'd be no fun. The day-night feature from GSC added a new dimension of realism into the games that I loved.
