Pokémon Go’s Mega Update is now live worldwide, featuring Mega Kangaskhan’s debut

After initially rolling out in Australia and New Zealand a few days ago, the big reworking of Mega Evolution in Pokémon Go is now live worldwide. To celebrate, not only has Mega Kangaskhan made its debut in the game, but a weekend dedicated to Mega Evolution is about to kick off.

The new Mega Evolution update not only adds easier ways to quickly Mega Evolve your Pokémon before Raids and battles but also makes it much easier to Mega Evolve the same Pokémon again and again by offering free subsequent Mega Evolutions. Although, there is a catch: you’ll have to either wait potentially up to about 14 days to do Mega Evolve the same Pokémon again, or pay off the remainder of its rest period with Mega Energy. That cooldown period can be reduced, however, by continuing to Mega Evolve your Pokémon and bring up its Mega Level.

Starting today, a new Special Research task will be available to all players Level 5 and up with a choice to be made between Venusaur, Charizard or Blastoise in order to get a taste for Mega Evolution with the updated mechanics.

Mega Kangaskhan’s debut in Mega Raids will also be celebrated on Sunday 1st May with a Mega Kangaskhan Raid Day between 11am and 2pm local time. During this time, Mega Kangaskhan raids will be more common, Shiny Mega Kangaskhans will have an increased chance of appearing and you can obtain up to 5 free Raid Passes from spinning Gym Photo discs both during the event and up to two hours afterwards.

Between Friday 10am local time and Sunday 8pm local time, special Field Research tasks will also be available with rewards of Mega Energy for all existing Mega Evolutions in the game, except for Mega Kangaskhan, all of whom will appear more frequently during this time and may also be shiny.

Throughout the duration of this time during the weekend, all Mega Pokémon will also have boosted CP – making them perfect choices to take into the Mega Kangaskhan raids especially as, if the Pokémon is anything like its main-game counterpart, you’ll need all the help you can get…
