The Rise of Ragenrok: Progloge: Rise of Ragenrok

by ThePlayfulFox

A small, brown egg shook. One, two, crack. A small nose poked out, wanting to come into the world. With a bit of a struggle, he popped his head out and glanced at the dark-brown cavern. Below him was a bit of dried grass to protect the eggs. There was one exit and entrance that he could see and the ceiling for the den was high up, much taller than him. He looked beside him, a red egg with a crack laid next to him. He gave a small screech as he watched the egg beside him open up as well. Soon they would race to see who could exit the confines of the shell first, but the whelp wanted to give his sibling a chance.

Once the other egg hatched some more, the little brown raced his red bother, seeing who could leave their shell first. He was slower than the red brother. He should not have waited, but then again he felt a small loyalty to him. They were clutch-mates. Both born in the same clutch. Not as close as egg-mates, but still a close bond forms when dragons are young.

A brown dragon walked up to the two of them, her face beaming. “Ignitus! They’re here! Two of the eggs have hatched!”

A red dragon strode over to the two and beamed as well, his green eyes filled with warmth. “They’re so handsome.” He glanced over at an egg behind the eggshells. “What about our third?”

The brown dragoness shook her head. “Don’t worry, I’m sure it’s just a bit late.” She sounded as if she was trying to convince herself of what she was saying. She sighed and looked back down at the two. “We should name them.” She pointed at him. “You’ll be named Ragenrok.”

Ignitus smiled and pointed at Ragenrok’s brother. “And you’ll be Firos.” He glanced at his mate. “Burna, I’m a father now.”

She nuzzled her mate. “I know Ignitus, I know.”

The red dragon closed his green eyes. “Our third egg will hatch. It has one of the strongest dragonesses that I know as a mother.”

Together, they watched the brown egg that never hatched. Ragenrok watched curiously, knowing something was up. He wanted them to watch him! He was the egg that was hatched, as well as his brother! They were the ones that needed attention, not some stupid egg that was late! He growled softly as he clicked his back claws on the cave floor. He gave a small yelp to get their attention, but to no avail. His soft growl turned into a snarl. One day he would be remembered. One day.

@Havoc_The_Gandalf Thank you. There'll also be the Rise of Flarea later, though it is going to take much longer than Ragenrok's since I'm jumping around his life and Flarea is just one huge adventure story...

Mmm. I must agree, I love the way you introduced the prologue and then ended it. Splendid work!

Maybe someday I'll take the time to go through and read the 'Eli in Dragnos', which I missed. And maybe someday, the original War of Dragnos thread could be picked up again but this time with a more plot driven backstory created through your current creative works and the previously mentioned 'Eli in Dragnos', and different in-depth areas.

@RenzFlintrock No, just that this was cannon and I had to hold it up that Ragenrok had two clutch-mates and one did not hatch.

@RenzFlintrock There are no such thing as evil people, just people that do bad things. The same goes for dragons.
