After a year of hard fought battles, the Pokémon World Championships for 2017 took place this past weekend in Anaheim, California. As with last year's championship tournament, battlers from across the globe engaged in intense competitions for Pokkén Tournament, the Pokémon TCG, and the Pokémon video games (this time via Pokémon Sun and Moon).

After three long and gruelling days of Pokémon battling, the 2016 Pokémon World Championships wrapped up yesterday afternoon in San Francisco - or earlier this morning depending on your timezone.
While the Pokkén Tournament finals were settled on Saturday, and its victors sadly missing during the Worlds closing ceremonies, our TCG and VGC finals were held on Sunday. Trophies were presented to our TCG and VGC winners during the closing ceremonies by Game Freak's Junichi Masuda and the Pokemon Company's president/CEO, Tsunekazu Ishihara. Congratulations to all of our new champions and to the rest of the players who took part in this year's Pokémon World Championships, and an especially big congrats to our first ever Pokkén Tournament World Champions!

The opening event for the Pokemon Worlds tournament has taken place in San Francisco today (and don't worry that you weren't able to watch it live - neither was anyone else). In it there was some news about the TCG and the announcement of 4 new Pokemon - 3 of which we're seeing outside of Japan for the first time and one of which is brand new to everyone.

The concept of the guys at Namco Bandai's Tekken coming together with The Pokemon Company/Nintendo to build a Pokemon version of Tekken is, on paper, so insane sounding that despite multiple indications over the past year that exactly that was happening, even the most open minded of us found it hard to commit to the theory.

So it probably doesn't really add up that I would espouse that the upcoming, actually being made, game could possibly be the best thing the series has done since the height of the original launch. But I am.

We don't really cover the anime or the TCG here a lot at Pokecharms, so why not break that mould a little bit with a two for one deal?

The new Furious Fists TCG set launched today, and to celebrate it, the Pokemon Company has uploaded a couple of new adverts that'll be playing out for it, including a specially produced anime scene detailing the biggest names in the set:

There's also a slightly less appealing advert with some dodgy 3D models if you want to also check that out.

The focus on Mega Lucario in the set would come as no real surprise, as the card is more or less an I-win kind of play, but the other Pokemon mentioned in the advert are also ones to keep an eye out for at events such as Nationals and Worlds. Due to rules introduced this year, however,...
