THE REGION OF ALOLA IS A ARCHIPELAGO

As we can see in the "map" of Alola, the island is quite similar to the shape of Oahu island, mainly because of the volcano, which is the same volcano shown in Japanese trailer when Shohei comes to Hawaii with her mother. Despite being a large island, it shows cities enough to conclude that it is the only island of the game, the island will have at least the 8 badges. We only see a village on top of the mountain, a small town to the south, and we leave this city and go to the right, we come to a larger city (which probably will house the first Gymnasium), and at the end of this largest city we have a short route with a house, which would be behind the mountain. In total there are at most 5 cities visible on this island, one of which have only a building, in addition to having a large port in one of them.

There are more than 100 islands that make up the archipelago, however, I believe that only 8 of them (already including Oahu) will be explored in Pokémon Sun and Moon. If this is true, we would have a gym on every island, and some islands could be just the cities gym, as with Cinnabar Island in Kanto (Pokémon Red / Blue), or simply "mini cities" +gym, since the Hawaii island is the largest of all and could well accommodate at least two pitches.

If all this speculation is true, we will have the first region consists of archipelagos in the main games in the franchise, since, though there are Sevii Island, they are not a "region" is an "extra" in the Red and Blue remakes so we could catch the Pokémon of Pokémon Gold and Silver, as well as the island's Battle Frontier is an "extra" in Pokémon Emerald.
