Hearty Tales, a Kalos Adventure!

"Um...that was my fault of them coming back to life..." She was surprised that they haven't found out that she is the new champion. "Do you even know who the champion is?"

"Your fault?" Jacob asked. "Uh, the champion of which region?" Jacob asked, trying to mask the fact that he didn't know the current champions of any regions.

"Wow... so that means... you're the champion?" Jacob wondered allowed. "What...How...Why didn't you say something? That's awesome!" Jacob stopped talking for a moment to take a breath. "So, maybe you could help me train my pokemon, eh?"

"True," Jacob said. He wasn't sure if she did not want to battle, or if she was letting him save face. There was no way Jacob would win. Not even close. "So, then, what're you doing around here? I mean, the champion could be doing so many more things; looking for other powerful pokemon, for example."

"Ah, I see," Jacob replied. "Wehlp, time to get moving," Jaco said as he stood, brushing the crumbs off his pants.

Jacob and the group continued towards Cyllage. They had been walking for a few hours when Jacob again felt the ground shake. From beneath them, Bunnelby appeared once again, looking menacingly at Oshawott.

“You again?!?” Jacob grabbed a pokeball. “Let’s see how you do against this!” he said as he threw the pokeball. After a flash, Floette appeared floating in the air. Bunnelby rushed towards it, preparing to tackle Jacob’s pokemon. “Floette, use fairy wind!” Floette nodded, and sent a powerful gust towards Bunnelby. Bunnelby was hit with the attack, and was sent flying skywards, out of Jacob’s sight. “You’re getting really strong, Floette,” Jacob said, commending his pokemon. For such a small creature, she sure did pack a powerful punch. “Take a rest,” Jacob recalled Floette.

The group walked for another hour or so before settling down for the night. Jacob couldn’t sleep, however. Travelling with the champion of Kalos, he knew he’d be able to beat all the gyms. And when it came time to fight her, he was sure he’d be ready. He rolled over in his sleeping back, and closed his eyes.

Jacob woke up early the next morning. Once again, Oshawott remained asleep as each of the group woke up one by one. Eventually, Jacob decided to shake the pokemon awake. Of course, Oshawott was irritated when he finally was awaken, and angrily slapped Jacob before helping clean up the campsite. It was at this moment that Jacob thought up an idea.

"Hey, Karley, any chance you've got a pokemon that could carry us much quicker to Cyllage?" It'd take most of today for us to walk there, but if you've got a pokemon, or a few pokemon that could carry all of us... we could be in Cyllage in an hour! What do ya think?"

"No...the gym leader...from the unova...Chili...and his brother's...the gym..." she had once traveled with Chili, he became the champion of the Unova a wile ago.

"Uh-huh..." Jacob muttered under his breath. "I'm not going to speculate on what happened. But! There is still the matter of using your pokemon to get us as quickly as possible to Cyllage?"

"Alright," Jacob said, as he, Oshawott, and Kevin pulled themselves onto Ginji. Oshawott was shaking; Jacob knew that Oshawott was especially wary of electric type pokemon. But he also knew that this would be the fastest way to Cyllage, and figured it would be best.

The trip was surprisingly fast. The Luxrays moved so fast that Jacob’s hair was up in the air when they stopped, and he had to brush it down. The speed had done nothing to push Oshawott at ease with the electric pokemon, and he was happy when Jacob removed him from Ginji’s back.

“Thanks for the help!” He directed at Karley, before the group headed off. It was still pretty early in the afternoon, and Jacob figured he’d have more than enough time to challenge the gym. It didn’t take long for them to find the gym; it was out of the way, on a nearby hill, cut into the rock. Jacob thought if he ever ran a gym, he’d never put it in a cave. The group entered to see the gym leader, Grant, standing there, speaking to one of his friends, waiting for a challenger. When he saw Jacob’s group he responded.

“So, which one of you am I fighting?” He asked, wryly. Jacob stepped forward. “Ah, alright then. Come; let’s have our battle.” Grant threw a pokeball, and an Amaura appeared. Jacob thought for a moment before making his move.

“Let’s go, Helioptile!” Helioptile appeared once again in front of Jacob. “Helioptile, use thunderbolt!” Helioptile fired a powerful bolt of lightning at Amaura.

“Amaura, use rock tomb!” Rocks fell from the ceiling, landing between Amaura and Helioptile’s attack, effectively blocking it. “Now, Amaura, use thunder wave!”

“Helioptile, use thunder wave!” The two attacks crashed together, cancelling each other out. “Helioptile, use thunderbolt again!”

“Amaura, use ice beam!” Once again, the attacks collided, with no clear winner. “Very well, Amaura, use take down!” The pokemon rushed forward, slamming into Helioptile and sending the electric-lizard flying backwards. “Now, ice beam!” Amaura fired a blue beam of cold energy at Helioptile, who was still in the air.

“Helioptile, use charge!” Jacob shouted as quickly as possible. Helioptile became covered with electric energy as the ice beam hit. Helioptilte became covered in ice, and dropped to the ground with a thud.

“Ha,” Grant bragged. “Your Helioptile was strong but…” Before he could finish the solid ice surrounding Helioptile cracked. Jacob smiled as the rest of the ice fell away, revealing Helioptile, bursting with electric energy.

“Helioptile, use thunderbolt!” Helioptile fired off another bolt of electricity, this one more powerful than the last.

“Amaura us ice beam!” Again the attacks collided, but this time Helioptile’s attack broke through, hitting Amaura and knocking him out. “Good move,” Grant responded, recalling his pokemon. “But you won’t beat Tyrunt so easily!” His second pokemon, the mini-dinasaur pokemon, appeared in front of him.

“Come on back, Helioptile,” Jacob said, recalling his pokemon. “You’re up, Floette! Use fairy wind!” Floette released a powerful gust of wind at Tyrunt, who was thrown back. The attack was super effective, but Tyrunt was able to get back up.

“Tyrunt use rock tomb!” Tyrunt sent several boulders flying towards Floette.

“Floette, fairy wind again!” Floette again sent a powerful gust of wind, knocking all the boulders to the ground. “Now, use magical leaf!”Floette released a horde of glowing leaves flying towards Tyrunt. The attack hit, knocking the pokemon to the ground. It was also super effective, and Tyrunt was unconscious. Grant was struck, surprised that his pokemon could be defeated so easily.

Jacob and his group walked along the path. He was beginning to get tired; he and his group had traveled across half the region in just a bit over a week. He would need to slow things down for a moment, he thought as he and his group continued towards Geosenge Town. There was no gym there, but it was necessary to get to Shalour City, where Jacob’s third gym battle would take place.

They had only been walking out for an hour and a half when Oshawott saw someone down the road. He tapped Jacob on the head, pointing towards the two men walking towards them. Jacob looked over at them. They quickly approached each other, and to Jacob’s surprise, they stopped in front of him.

“You’re a trainer, right?” One of them asked.

“Uh, yea,” Jacob replied.

“Well, then, how about a battle?” the same one replied. “We’ve been walking for more than a day without seeing any other trainers, and I’ve been itching for a fight.”

“Sure!” Jacob replied. “Let’s go, Oshawott!” Oshawott jumped down from Jacob’s shoulder. Oshawott hadn’t fought in a while, and Jacob wanted to give his first pokemon a little stretch. The man stepped forward.

“Come on out, Clauncher!” He said as his pokemon appeared in front of him. “Clauncher, use water gun!”

“Oshawott, use water gun!” The two attacks collided in the center, cancelling each other out and causing water to spray on both groups. “Oshawott, use aqua jet!” Oshawott flew forwards towards Clauncher, slamming into the pokemon and knocking it to the ground.

“Clauncher, us vicegrip!” Clauncher’s biggest claw glowed white as Clauncher swing his attack forward.

“Oshawott, use razor shell!” The two attackes hit each other, forcing both pokemon to fall backwards. “Now, Oshawott, water pulse!” Oshawott sent a ball of water at Clauncher. When it hit, Clauncher was surrounded by the water, unable to break free. Eventually, Oshawott released the attack, and Clauncher fell to the ground, unconscious. “Great job Oshawott!”

Jacob sighed. They had already set up their campsite, and now Jacob and Oshawott began to relax. Kevin had already fallen asleep, and so Jacob and Oshawott were left to put out the campfire. Oshawott did so with a quick blast of water. As they prepared to sleep, Jacob heard something coming from a nearby bush. Jacob watched as a Skiddo emerged, shaking its head back and forth.

“A Skiddo,” Jacob said to himself. “What luck! Go, Tyrunt!” The rock dinosaur pokemon appeared in front of Jacob. “Alright, Tyrunt, use tackle!” Tyrant rushed forward, ramming his head into Skiddo. Skiddo turned towards Tyrunt angrily, firing a razor leaf attack that sent Tyrunt falling to the ground. “Hang on, Tyrunt!” Jacob shouted as his pokemon returned to his feet. “Great, now use bide!” Tyrunt began to glow, as another razor leaf attack hit him. Then, glowing more strongly, he launched himself forward at Skiddo. Skiddo himself flew towards Tyrunt using take down. The two attacks collided, causing a small explosion. When the smoke cleared, Tyrunt lay on the ground unconscious, and Skiddo walked slowly away. “Darn,” Jacob muttered under his breath. “Return, Tyrunt.” Tyrunt disappeared in a red flash, returned to his pokeball.

The next morning, everyone took their time getting ready. It was almost lunchtime when the campsite was finally cleaned up, and the group headed on their way. Jacob looked at the map; they still had a while to go before they reached the next city. Oshawott slept on his shoulder as they walked. They did not get very far before something caught Jacob’s eye. Skiddo was walking along the side of the road, not noticing Jacob and his group. As Jacob approached, Skiddo realized he was being followed, and turned to battle. Jacob thought about his choice of pokemon. He wouldn’t use Tyrunt again, that was a bad idea. Oshawott was sleeping, so he’d have to pick one of his other pokemon.

“Let’s go, Helioptile!” Jacob figured that Helioptile was his most powerful pokemon, and even though his attacks would be weak against Skiddo, Helioptile still had the best chance. “Helioptile, use quick attack!” Helioptile rushed towards Skiddo. But the grass pokemon didn’t move, instead turned to face the attack head on. Helioptile slammed into Skiddo, who took the attack on the head without moving.

“Wow,” Kevin said. “Skiddo is strong enough to take Helioptile’s attacks without flinching!”

“We’ll see,” Jacob replied. “Use thunderbolt!” Helioptile fired a powerful bols of lightning at Skiddo, and as it hit, the pokemon recoiled. Angrily, Skiddo rushed forwards, using take down. “Helioptile, use charge, and then quick attack!” Helioptile became surrounded with electric energy before shooting forward, colliding with Skiddo. Skiddo pushed right through Helioptile’s attack, sending the electric pokemon flying. Helioptile hit the ground hard, but got back up. Jacob was running out of ideas as Skiddo fired a razor leaf attack at Helioptile, sending Helioptile flying further back, and again falling to the ground. “Helioptile! Hang on!” Jacob shouted to his pokemon. “Use thunder wave!” Helioptile struggled to his feet, and fired a wave of electric energy that hit Skiddo. Skiddo struggled to move, slowly stepping towards Helioptile. Skiddo was stronger than any pokemon Jacob had, that was for sure. But now that Skiddo was paralyzed, Jacob had theadvantage. “Helioptile, use charge and then thunderbolt!” Helioptile glowed yellow with energy before sending a powerful bolt of electricity barreling down towards Skiddo. The grass pokemon was hit, and fell to the ground, unable to move, and smoking from the powerful electric attack. Jacob threw a pokeball and the wild Skiddo disappeared. He was caught.

Jacob and his group were relaxing. They had spent the rest of yesterday doing the same, and Jacob was fine with it; his pokemon had all been injured the day before. But now, he was back to training. All of Jacob and Kevin’s pokemon were out, some relaxing, like Skiddo in the shade, but others not. Helioptile and Tyrunt stood in the middle of the camp, battling on Jacob’s commands.

“Helioptile, use thunderbolt,” he ordered as Helioptile fired a bolt of electricity at Tyrunt. “Tyrunt, use dig!” The dinosaur pokemon disappeared underground, dodging the attack. Tyrunt came up beneath Helioptile, sending the electric pokemon flying backwards to the ground. “Great job Tyrunt!” Jacob shouted. Tyrunt had been one of Jacob’s weakest pokemon, but now that he had figured out how to fight, Jacob was confident Tyrunt would be fine.

“Alright,” Kevin said. “Let’s get going! If we want to reach Geosenge anytime soon we need to head out.”

“Good idea,” Jacob responded. He recalled his pokemon and called for Oshawott. “Let’s go, Oshawott!” The water pokemon ran towards Jacob from the shade of a nearby tree, leaping back onto his shoulded.

“Osha!”

Geosenge Town was a nice little village. Jacob thought he could live in a town like this after he became champion in Kalos. But then he remembered; the pokemon were weird here. Not like in Unova; he’d have to go back at some point, at least for the Oshawott festival. Still, he would enjoy the town for now.

After getting something to eat, the group headed to the pokemon center. It was already getting late, and Jacob wanted to leave the next morning; after all, there was no pokemon gym in Geosenge. It wasn’t long before the entire group was asleep.

“Hey Jacob,” Kevin asked as they walked along the road to Shalour City. It was still early in the morning and Jacob was very tired, not feeling very talkative. Still he turned to his friend to respond.

“What’s up?”

“Do you think… maybe I could catch the next pokemon we find? I mean, I’ve always wanted to catch my own pokemon.”

“Sure, no problem!” Jacob responded. “We just have to find one.” As if by fate, just then a pokemon came floating out of the bushes. It was an Inkay.

“Alright then,” Kevin said as he grabbed for a pokeball. “Come on out, Hawlucha!” The flying-fighting type pokemon appeared in front of Kevin. “Hawlucha, use karate chop!” Hawlucha jumped forwards, bringing his arm around to slam down on Inkay, who fell to the ground. The pokemon rose, however, and fired a psybeam attack, knocking Hawlucha to the ground. The attackwas super effective. Hawlucha struggled to his feet as Kevin gave the next order. “Hawlucha, use aerial ace!” Hawlucha glowed white as he rushed forward, hitting Inkay, and again knocking the pokemon to the ground. This time, it did not get up. With a flick of his wrist, Kevin sent a pokeball flying at the fainted Inkay, capturing her.

“Well done,” Jacob said, commending Kevin. “Especially for a first try! I remember our first try here, right Oshawott?” They both thought back to the firs Pidgey that had found that left Oshawott with a bump on his head and Jacob with no new pokemon.

“Thanks,” Kevin replied as he recalled Hawlucha. The group began to move forward again.

“So, how far do you think it is to Shalour?” Jacob asked.

“Well, I’ve never been there, but the map says it shouldn’t be too much further. Of course, we have to go through the reflection cave first.”

“The reflection cave?” Jacob asked.

“Yea. It’s a cave that’s walls have naturally formed smooth and reflective; very mirrorlike. I’ve never been there, but I’ve always wanted to go!”

“Well it looks like you’ll get your chance,” Jacob said as he pointed forward. The cave was now clearly in sight. The two of them entered, and it was just as Kevin had said. The walls were reflective, and mirrorlike; Jacob had never seen anything quite like it. Of course, the ceiling and floor liked like that of any other cave. Nonetheless, it was very odd.

Just then, something caught Jacob’s eye in the reflection. He turned to see a Noibat. “Oshawott,” Jacob said, preparing his pokemon for battle. But just then, he felt a hand on his shoulder.

“That’s my Noibat!” Jacob didn’t recognize the voice. He turned to see an older trainer, probably in her fifties, standing directly behind him. “I just caught him,” the woman said. “But, I could use a battle; if you’d like to fight, I’ll give it a shot!” The woman said.

“Of course!” Jacob replied. “Ready Oshawott?” The water pokemon nodded.

“Alright, Noibat, use wing attack!’ Noibat flew forward, his wings glowing with power.

“Oshawott, use aqua jet!” The two attacks collided, send a small wave of energy out. The wave hit the ceiling of the cave, and the stalagmites began to fall to the ground. Jacob grabbed Oshawott as he and Kevin ran from the falling rocks. They jumped into a corner of the area as rocks closed the path behind them. There was only one way forwards now; deeper into the cave.

Jacob and his group continued through the cave. It was getting darker as they moved; they must have been getting close to the center of the cave. Jacob began to feel nervous; if a wild pokemon, or worse, some pokemon thief were to come up behind them, he would have no idea. He could only hope that Kevin or Oshawott would hear the approach, and be able to respond.

It was in this darkness that something caught Jacob’s eye; a faint purple glow. But was it the actual light he saw, or just a nearby mirror reflecting the light. He reached out his hand, placing it on the reflective wall. That mean the glow was coming from behind him.
“Oshawott!” Jacob shouted as he swung around. “Use water gun on that light!” Oshawott hit the light, and it fell to the ground.

“Es…” he heard the light say. Now Jacob knew what it was: an Espurr.

“Let’s catch this pokemon,” Jacob said as he released Helioptile, who appeared beside him. “Helioptile, use charge!” Helioptile began to glow with electric power, which fully revealed the small section of the cave they had been walking through. “Now, Oshawott, use razor shell!” Oshawott ran towards Espurr with his shell in hand. He didn’t get very far, however, as Espurr used psychic, sending Oshawott flying backwards into the wall. “Fine then, Oshawott, use water gun!” Oshawott fired a beam of water at Espurr. Espurr was one step ahead however, using light screen to block the attack. Then Espurr when on the offensive firing a psybeam towards Oshawott. The attack hit, and the resulting mini explosion sent rocks flying into Jacob, and knocked Oshawott to the ground.

“Alright Oshawott, it’s our turn. Use aqua jet!” Oshawott rushed towards Espurr, surrounded in water. However, Espurr used light screen again, and Oshawott’s attack was unable to break the shield. “Oshawott, use razor shell!” Oshawott’s shell glowed as he swing again and again at Espurr, who dodged each strike, one by one. Finally, Oshawott brought his shell down on Espurr, slamming the pokemon to the ground. Espurr rose, however, and using Psychic sent Oshawott falling back. “Okay Oshawott, use water gun!” Espurr again attempted to block with a light screen, but this time the shield was too weak, and Oshawott’s attack broke through, hitting Espurr and knocking him unconscious. “Wonderful, Oshawott,” Jacob said as he threw his pokeball. Espurr was caught.

It did not take the group much longer to reach the end of the cavern, and as soon as they did they could see the city. Jacob rushed into the city; he wanted to fight the gym as quickly as possible. After a quick stop at the pokemon center, he and his six pokemon prepared to face Korrina.

It was getting late, but the sun was still up, and gym remained open. Jacob entered and immediately confronted Korrina. After some small talk the battle began.

“Let’s go, Meinfoo!” The small fighting pokemon appeared in front of Korrina.

“A fighting type,” Jacob thought out loud. “Come on out, Espurr!” Jacob’s newest pokemon appeared in the center of the stadium. “Let’s begin,” Jacob said. “Use psybeam!” Espurr fired a beam of psychic energy at Meinfoo, who easily dodged it. Meinfoo was fast.

“Meinfoo, use double-slap!” Jacob tried to have Espurr dodge the attack, but Meinfoo had hit Espurr before Jacob could give the command. Espurr recoiled, but remained in the battle.

“Alright Espurr, try Psychic!” Espurr glowed blue just as Meinfoo began to as well. Meinfoo was lifted high into the air. “Now, use psybeam!” Jacob shouted. Espurr released Meinfoo and fired another psybeam at the falling Meinfoo, who was hit mid air, falling to the ground. But Meinfoo was strong, and stood back up.

“Meinfoo, use power-up-punch!” Meinfoo ran in close to Espurr, with his hand glowing brown.

“Espurr, use light screen!” As Meinfoo leapt towards Espurr to release the attack, a yellow rectangular shield appeared between them. Meinfoo slammed his fist into the shield, breaking it and sending Espurr falling back.

“Now, Meinfoo, use low kick!” Meinfoo sprinted to the fallen Espurr, kicking him while he was still on the ground. Espurr flew into a nearby wall, and was knocked unconscious. Jacob had not lost a battle against a trainer before, even an individual 1 v 1, and he was a bit disheartened. But then he reminded himself that he had just caught Espurr; perhaps he should use a pokemon he trained more.

“Come on out, Helioptile!” The yellow lightning-lizard appeared beside Jacob. “Ready, Helioptile?”

“Heli!” the pokemon responded happily.

“Alright then, use thunderbolt!” Helioptile sent a forceful bolt of electricity at Meinfoo, who swiftly dodged.

“Meinfoo, use low kick!” Meinfoo ran inwards towards Helioptile, preparing for the kick.

“Helioptile, use thunder wave!” Helioptile sent a wave of electric energy at Meinfoo, when it hit, Meinfoo stopped moving, and dropped to the ground. “Now, use thunderbolt!” The attack hit the paralyzed Meinfoo, rendering the pokemon unable to battle. Korrina recalled Meinfoo.

“You’re good,” she said. “But not as good as Machoke!” she shouted as her Machoke appeared in front of her. It was a large pokemonl; bigger than anything Jacob’s team had. But size wasn’t everything.

“Helioptile, use thunderbolt!”

“Machoke, use rock tomb!” Rocks fell directly in front of Helioptile, blocking his attack. Before Jacob could come up with his next move, Machoke was already jumping over the rocks at Helioptile. “Machoke, use mega punch!” Machoke’s fist began to glow, and he punched Helioptile, who fell backwards. “Don’t let up Machoke! Use rock tomb!” This time, the rocks began to fall around Helioptile; one crashed right next to him, knocking him to the ground.

“Helioptile!” Jacob shouted as his pokemon struggled to get to its feet. Jacob was worried; he could barely launch an attack, much less hit with one. As Jacob began to consider his final moves, Helioptile began to glow. Jacob smiled. “This will even the odds!” Helioptile grew significantly, changing shape and standing on two legs. “Let’s go Heliolisk! Use quick attack!” Heliolisk flew forwards at a great speed, faster than any pokemon Jacob had seen.

“Careful Machoke!” Korrina cautioned. But it was too late, Heliolisk had slammed into Machoke’s side, sending the pokemon across the stage.

“Now use thunder!” Heliolisk nodded, before opening his frills and firing a powerful mass of electricity at Machoke. When it hit Machoke shouted in pain. When the attack ended, Machoke was on the ground defeated. Jacob had won.

__________________________________________________________________

Jacob and his group had been following the road for hours now, hoping to get to the next village in the coming few days. His recent gym victory was still fresh in his mind as he thought about his next battle. Excited as ever, he was walking pretty fast, which left Kevin perpetually trying to catch up to him.

“Come on, Kev!” Jacob shouted to his friend, who was clearly having trouble with the group’s speed. The lab assistant shot back.

“Slow down! We’re not all as tall as you; I can’t go that fast.” Jacob figured Kevin was probably right, but he couldn’t control himself. With Oshawott on his shoulder, he broke into almost a full sprint, forcing the water pokemon to grab Jacob’s hair for dear life. When Jacob felt the tugging, he immediately stopped, and the force of the stop sent Oshawott falling to the ground.

“Sorry,” Jacob shouted back, as he turned to see something in the middle of the road. He squinted and down the path he recognized a Greninja. The water pokemon saw Jacob and Oshawott, and Jacob waved, figuring it probably belonged to someone. While he waited for Kevin, Jacob watched as the Greninja rushed towards Jacob. The pokemon quickly moved closer and closer.

Jacob looked back at Kevin, who was only now catching up. He watched his friend trudging along the road, out of breath. But he was surprised when he heard Kevin yell at him: “Turn Around!”

Jacob turned to see Greninja only a few yards away, still sprinting at the two of them. Jacob and Oshawott fell to the ground as the pokemon slammed into them. Jacob looked up as the Greninja, now towering over him, formed a water shuriken attack in its hand, and brought it down. Jacob was able to grab Oshawott before the attack hit nearby, sending Jacob and Oshawott flying to the side.

“Let’s go Inkay!” he heard Kevin shout. The pokemon appeared in front of Jacob, ready for battle.

“Good idea,” Jacob said, reaching for his pokeballs. Finding the one he wanted, he dropped it to the ground. In a flash of red, Espurr appeared beside him. “Espurr, use psychic!”

“You too, Inkay!” Together, both pokemon glowed blue, as the Greninja was caught by both pokemon. With Greninja struggling to move, Jacob got a good look at the pokemon for the first time. Everything looked normal, except for a few bruises on the pokemon’s arms, and the pokemon’s glowing red eyes. Just then, the wild pokemon broke free of the psychic pokemons’ grip, and stepped forward, preparing a night slash attack. He jumped at Inkay as Jacob gave the next command.

“Espurr, protect Inkay with light screen!” Espurr stepped in front of Inkay, created a yellow rectangular shield. The shield did not stop Greninja, however, whose attack easily broke it, and knocked both Espurr and Inkay to the ground.

“Inkay, use psywave!”

“Espurr, you too!” Both pokemon fired a wave of energy at Grenija, but the pokemon leapt to the side, doing a small flip and avoiding both attacks. The wild Greninja fired a water shuriken attack back at Inkay, hitting and sending the pokemon falling into a nearby tree. Grenija fired another one at Espurr. “Espurr, use light screen!” Again the pokemon created a rectangular shield, but this time, it held the wild pokemon’s attack. Espurr breathed out relieved, as he was hit from behind with Greninja’s night slash attack. The attack smashed Espurr backwards, forcing him into Inkay who was just beginning to recoer.

Jacob and Kevin exchanged looks before nodding. The two of them returned their pokemon, and started to run. Unfortunately, Greninja was far faster than either of them, and the wild pokemon was quickly gaining on them Oshawott, still on Jacob’s shoulder, turned around, firing small water gun attacks at the pokemon, but Greninja was fast enough to dodge them while trying to catch the group. Greninja began to prepare an attack to fire back, leaving its left hand behind it as water gathered for its attack.

That was when luck struck. Bunnelby, atop a Diggersby, popped out of the ground just in front of Kevin and Jacob. Jacob’s group whizzed past them, without looking back. That was when Greninja’s water shuriken slammed into Bunnelby, forcing the pokemon to the ground. Diggersby angrily turned towards Greninja, and his ears glowed as he swung forward attacking the wild water pokemon. As the battle continued, Jacob’s group made it further and further from Greninja to safety.

They continued running for a while after they had lost Greninja, just to be safe. Breathing heavily, the group marched onwards further and further east. It was only an hour or so when the group came across a large clearing, with a small wooden house at the center. Jacob noticed his water bottle was empty, and he was running low on food, so the group decided to knock on the door. An old man answered.

After speaking with the old man for some time, he let Jacob’s group into the house. The old man lived alone, Jacob guessed. But when he asked, the old man just laughed pointing at the window, and saying “There’s my family.” Jacob peaked out the curtains, and saw a group of no fewer than ten Tyrunts. Seeing the smile on Jacob’s face, the old man took the group outside to meet the dinosaur pokemon.

“How did you get them?” Jacob asked. “I thought most Tyrunts disappeared a while ago?”

“Well,” the old man replied. “A research company not far from here asked me to raise the pokemon. Once they’re strong and grown up, I will release them to the wild. Hopefully, if I do my job well, we’ll see the return of these ancient pokemon.”

Jacob nodded, listening closely before throwing a pokeball. In front of Jacob appeared his own Tyrunt. Now slightly larger than the old man’s younger Tyrunts, the pokemon quickly became accepted into the group, and Jacob, Kevin, and the old man looked on as the pokemon were playing. Oshawott walked over, trying to join the group before one of the Old man’s Tyrunts swung its tail, knocking Oshawott out of the circle. The pokemon sadly returned to Jacob.

“That’s a great idea,” Kevin responded to the old man. “I work in Professor Sycamore’s Lab, and we would love to be a part of the program, if that’s possible. Do you think you could work us in?”

“Well,” the old man responded. “I suppose they could probably use some help analyzing the data, and bringing the ancient pokemon back to life. I can ask, if you’d like.” Kevin nodded in response. The group watched as Jacob’s Tyrunt now began to lead the rest, running around the yard in a line.

“It would appear your Tyrunt is something of a leader,” the old man chuckled. “I’ve never seen that before!” Jacob nodded happily. “Look,” the old man continued. “If you guys don’t have a place to stay tonight, you can stay here. Tomorrow, in the morning, I’ll give you the number for the organization I’m working with, and you can see if you can’t get involved,” he said, looking at Kevin.

It was only a few hours later that the group returned inside, leaving all the Tyrunts in a small pen for the night. Jacob slept more soundly than he had since his journey in Kalos began.

The next morning, Jacob and Kevin woke up relatively early, but not as early as the old man, who already had breakfast on the table when the boys came down the stairs. The three of them ate slowly, talking about many things, and laughing about how Oshawott was still asleep upstairs. As they were finishing their meal, the old man heard something outside. He motioned towards Jacob and Kevin, and together the group rushed outside.

The Tyrunts had already been let out of the pen by the old man, and the group of them was running away from something. Jacob squinted his eyes, and emerging from some nearby brush, he could see the wild Greninja, slowly walking towards them.

“This one again?!?” Kevin asked, angrily. He reached for his pokeballs before Jacob stopped him. Emerging from the group of Tyrunts was Jacob’s Tyrunt, who angrily growled at the wild Greninja.

“Ready, Tyrunt?” Jacob asked. But he got no response. He looked over; his pokemonw as prepared for battle. Greninja rushed towards the group again. “Tyrunt, use rock tomb!” Rocks fell from the sky, but Greninja zig-zagged, dodging each of the individual boulders. “Alright, Tyrunt, use tackle!” The pokemon rushed at the approaching Greninja, but Greninja’s hand glowed with dark energy as it brought a night slash attack down on Tyrunt, knocking it back. Immediately after, Greninja fired a water shuriken attack once more, also hitting Tyrunt. The pokemon struggled to get up as Greninja ran at him again.

“Tyrunt, use dragon tail!” Tyrunt swung around, smashing his glowing tail into Greninja, and send the water pokemon falling to the ground. But the victory was short lived. Greninja pulled itself to its feet, and fired attack after attack at Tyrunt. Each one hit, and did more damage than the last. Tyrunt wouldn’t be able to hold out much longer. Jacob was worried; he couldn’t tell Tyrunt to escape underground, because that would leave the other Tyrunts, and Jacob himself vulnerable to Greninja’s attacks.

“Jacob,” Kevin said. “I think it’s time for me to help out.” He reached for his pokeballs, but Jacob stopped him.

“Tyrunt can do this,” Jacob replied before turning back to the battle. “Tyrunt, use rock tomb!” Jacob shouted, but as he did Tyrunt was hit with a water shuriken, and knocked to the ground. Struggling to move, Jacob began to think Kevin may have been right. But Tyrunt shook his head towards Jacob before standing up again, prepared for more punishment. As he did, however, he began to glow. Jacob looked on as Tyrunt grew to nearly ten times his size. As the glowing began to cease, the evolved pokemon appeared: Tyrantrum.

“Alright, Tyrantrum!” Jacob shouted. Tyrantrum gave Jacob a determined look before turning back around at Greninja, prepared to fight. Greninja, however, was not going to wait for Jacob and Tyrantrum to figure out what was going on, and it fired a water shuriken at Tyrantrum. Jacob gave the order just in time. “Tyrantrum, use bide!” The pokemon glowed white as the water shuriken attack slammed into Tyrantrum. The t-rex pokemon stumbled backwards before turning towards Greninja, and unleashing a beam of white energy. The attack slammed into the wild Greninja, who dropped to the ground. It was evident the pokemon had not rested since its previous battle with Jacob, and so it struggled to get up.

“Now, Tyrantrum, use head smash!” The giant dinosaur pokemon ran towards Greninja, who was barely able to stand before the attack hit. Greninja was spent spiraling away, into the nearest tree, which collapsed from the power of the attack. “Well done, Tyrantrum!” Jacob shouted. Together, Jacob, Kevin and the old man pulled the unconscious Greninja from the rubble, and gently laid it on the ground. Jacob looked towards Kevin, who inspected the pokemon thoroughly. It was very odd for a pokemon to follow other trainers, particularly in there was no clear reason.

Kevin reach over behind the water pokemon’s ear and pulled out small mechanical gadget. They coundn’t tell was it was, but t was glowing red, the same color as the wild Greninja’s eyes. Jacob and Kevin looked at each other.

Together, they helped the pokemon into the house to rest. The next day, Jacob, Kevin, and even Oshawott woke up early, and, after saying goodbye to the old man, left Greninja in the house and continued on their way.
