Welcome back to Pokécharms! We've recently launched a new site and upgraded forums, so there may be a few teething issues as everything settles in. Please see our Relaunch FAQs for more information.
What this would involve is you signing up to get one of your written works looked at by someone else on the site, who will give you honest and constructive feedback – what works about the story, what can be improved, and so on.
What this wouldn't be, it is worth emphasising, is asking to be complimented. You'd be told what you did well – because that's just as important as anything else. But you'll be told what can be done better, and it will be to help you improve the quality of your work. It will be honest, and you might not agree with it. Whether you take it on board would be up to you.
But honest feedback has been instrumental into getting my writing where it is today, and I'll need lots more to get any better at it. I think it can really help.
Well, not everyone wants to be criticised, which is fair – some people just write for fun, not to get better, and I respect that. It is worth listening to constructive criticism for many reasons, though, so I recommend it to all writers who might find it useful.
I think that'd be great! Writing is just kind of a hobby for me, but I'd like to have people telling me how I could improve. Just so long as it's not just people telling me what I did wrong and not telling me how I could fix it. That's just...ugh. Gets on my nerves when people just talk about how I can't do anything right and don't tell me what I can do to get better.
@AspenTR33 Indeed – that's not constructive criticism, that's just bashing. The intention here would be to ensure people specifically focus on telling writers how they can get better.
