Ask to Join threads are not really restricted in terms of who can post in them on a forum level. But if someone who didn't ask to join and wasn't approved by the thread starter posts in the thread, the thread starter needs to report them, and we will have their posts (and if necessary, their ability to post in that thread) removed.

As for how does the asking to join work? Ideally, the thread should have its accompanying discussion thread in the appropriate Role Play Discussion board, where applications and the like can be submitted - but if one doesn't exist, a person wanting to join the thread will have to contact the thread starter by private conversation or profile message and ask them about it. ^^

Pretty much - if they didn't ask you if they could join the thread and they post in it anyway, that's when you report them, and we remove them. ^^
