I'd say just level up your Pokémon to at or above the Champion's levels, and make sure you have a good spread of moves on your Pokémon (i.e., putting Flamethrower, Fire Blast, and Fire Spin on a Fire type is bad; try to put other moves of different types on alongside a fire move.)
