They were probably designed in such a way that they wouldn't recognize human DNA. Despite their huge variety in characteristics, Pokemon would need to have some aspect of their DNA that completely separates them from human beings(The question of how evolution-or more likely mutation-was able to isolate humans entirely is a whole 'nother matter). Making a lot of assumptions here. A very good question indeed.

Ah, another wonderfully answered question! Honestly, that isolation of human evolution was something that crossed my mind. However, your theory does have a hole in it; not all Pokémon evolve too. If what separates us from animals is the fact humans are unable to evolve, then Pokeballs technically wouldn't be able to catch evolution isolated Pokemon like Chatot, Unown, or legendaries.

You bring up a good point that not all Pokemon can evolve, therefore making them share a characteristic with humans. Although, I never stated specifically that the way Pokemon grow was the only thing that could biologically differentiate them from humans, although, since most Pokemon can evolve, that would be one of The factors, others being types and abilities surpassing humans.

I suppose the biology that allows them to be burned alive and not die makes a good differentiation.

Ah, well, I just dabble myself. I respect all rpers that have above average descriptive abilities. It takes a certain finesse to allow someone to imagine what you imagined without getting them bored or confused. You have that finesse.
