Maybe, but from what I've seen of the games the baby-tier difficulty kind of makes it not really matter? xD

Actually, the difficulty has nothing to do with it for me. 
It's the actual journeying between the 3rd to 4th and 4th to 5th gyms that makes me a tad sad. I've always enjoyed having a decent amount of distance to travel/battle with my Pokemon before having to take on the next gym. I can't recall how close the rest of the gyms are, so maybe they're just as bad..?

Well Lumiose and Coumarine are one route away form each other (although IIRC you have the power plant to deal with beforehand). and after that... i forget how much distance is between Lumiose and Laverre. XD
