I'm joining a rpg and since I don't usually join and partake in one I was going to look the part at least so I don't stand out awkwardly. Sorry if I bothered you, really, really sorry.

Basically, I understand what you mean, but the reason we restrict username changes is simply because they're not supposed to be changed like hats.

Your name is how people identify you on the site - it may work better for that one RPG, but it's potentially confusing otherwise if you change your whole name. We've never gotten into the practice of changing users' names for RPs here for that reason - not least because you might be in more than one at once!
