Lookin g00d, Pokecharms. Some call me Nathan, though I usually go by LoveGame here in the Pokemon community. I've been playing Pokemon since R/B released, and I've played competitively on and off since 2009. Nowadays I'm just some washed-up player, still a little proud of my low-tier wins back in the day. Semi-retired, but still down for a match or two.
So, yeah. During the heyday of Platinum, I was somewhat known for my relative success with lower-tiers despite exclusively playing in OU format. More specifically, Diggz the Sandslash, the first Pokémon I ever EV trained, and my all-time favorite Pokémon Mantine. Though the rest of my team was generally viable, most people would consider it suicide to use these two outside of casual play, but I managed to pull it off thanks to my greatest strength at the time: reads. One way or another, I had a knack for out-predicting my opponent and with enough smart switch-ins, I managed to get my W/L ratio in the positives.
Sadly I lacked the ability to travel and never got to attend tournaments in the flesh, and admittedly my interest began to wane not long after HGSS when I sunk into a deep depression for over a year.
I'll be blunt, I did and still do think BW were terrible games with an even worse meta. Deciding to pass on the Weather Wars, I completely skipped out on the BW era of competitive, and I don't think I missed much.
Come 6th gen, I decided to jump back into the fray after meeting a group on Showdown that regularly practiced with me. During this time I essentially went back to my old style of mixed tier teams, but experimented with a lot of random Pokemon at the time too. Despite having decent wins here and there I was still somewhat rusty. I got into Pokemon Showdown at the time and laddered decently in VGC with a gimmick sun team, but didn't have many notable wins outside of that.
Later in 2014 I found myself in bad financial straits and couldn't afford ORAS, so I ended up missing out on the second half of that gen. I eventually got the game in late 2015, but it was largely irrelevant by that point. I did have one good ORAS battle where I managed to take out a Mega Blaziken with my Mantine, but that was about it.
Though I played Sun and Moon, I never got into the meta due to lack of time and trying to beat other games. I may or may not get into Gen 8. We'll see.
